.Good action out of the box the only con is the booket teaching how to use the mini kaoss could be much better I learned some on you tube. The younger people in worship band like the distortion sound of the pickup that can be turned on an off

.Tone wise, a lot of options. I expected the kaos pad to be more fully integrated though. Think of it as an add on to you bass signal, not something so much that your bass signal is passed thru. I purchased as the stupid deal of the day for the cost of the pad so great deal. Bass itself is incredibly light and sounds decent. Frets needed to go finished when I got it, and serious neck adjustment.

.I've got other Ibanez guitars, and I love electronic music so this was a no brained for me. You can add samples, drum tracks, or whatever you want to the kaoss pad which makes it pretty versatile. The effects are great, but this is not an effect processor if you are wondering! The effects run only when the pad is being utilized. Overall, I'm stoked about this purchase!

.First impressions: The bass has a good weight and feel. the pickup sounds beefy but there is no dedicated tone control or EQ. The on-board distortion is not so good, rather raspy, but sounds okay through headphones. Also I can see why they put built-in raspy distortion as the effects of the Kaoss on the bass are more interesting and expressive with the distortion. Without it many effects sound so-so.

The Kaoss: As expected, some effects just don't jive with bass guitar. I found the rhythmic stuff like LFO Filter, Slicer and the Looper effects fun and interesting. The Vinyl Stop is cool. The Fuzz effect is nice. Some effects can make it sound like an odd synth patch and good for trippy random noise etc.. The problem of course is playing and touching the Kaoss pad simultaneously. Generally, unless purposely playing sustained notes, you have to find a good spot on the Kaoss screen and put it on hold and play. But you have to practice where to touch or you might get unwanted burble. Some effects can work well just by sustaining a note on the bass and rhythmically tapping the effect on and off.

There are internal factory DJ type grooves on the Kaoss and it's fun to jam along, so you can see the potential of putting a memory card with your own wav files or MP3s in there. I happened to have a 2 Gig Micro SD around and it worked fine. Even successfully downloaded and installed the latest KP2s firmware. One thing I found a bit a bothersome was that both the bass and internal MP3s are effected when using the Kaoss pad seem you can't leave one or the other un-effected. As such, it can be limiting creatively as you might prefer at times to use different effects for the bass then the grooves, or just effect the bass, or just the grooves. I'm thinking it would be best to use an external groove machine into a separate Kaoss Pad, which I already have, and just use the Kaoss on the bass, for the bass.

Maybe attach the iPhone on the bass, merge audio and run the Kaossilator app?
