This pedal is getting a little bit of a bad rap here, and id like to clear that up. First thing is It can only work with what you feed it. If you're running passive pickups through a 35 watt practice amp in your moms basement this pedal is not going to give you Type O Negative death metal fuzz. This pedal does to bass exactly what the original Tube Screamer does for guitar... it adds a nice controlable amount of overdrive with tube amplifier overtones.

Crank the Gain and Mix nobs to 100%, set Bass and Treble to personal preference, cut the Level back to just slightly louder than when in "off" position and this thing distorts bigtime. I had no problem getting as much if not more distortion out of this pedal as the video above using EMG pickups and an old 200 watt Carvin through a single GK-15". I spent most of the day yesterday playing with this thing back to back with my friend's SansAmp and i can honestly say i prefer the Tube Screamer. This combined with a good EQ and a Boss compressor/limiter and im done buying gear. It doesnt get any better or more versitile. All my rack gear is going up on eBay.

If you play in a band at club levels and want a pedal that can give raunchy distortion or dialed back to just a fat punchy tube amp boost to kick on when the song gets loud then this your best bet.

.If your gear is a little underpowered, try this pedal before you spend $600+ on another amp. You can use it as a booster or have it on all the time, but for sure, the TS9B should be in every bassist's arsenal.
Most bass OD's I've heard before only seem to drive the treble, making the bass sound as if it were farting all day, or with too much gain, sound as if you've just stumbled on a beehive. Not this one, the TS9B drives the whole signal making it sound aggressive but with power and character. It can sound gentle and harmonious too, breaking the signal in that bluesy sweatspot. Now that's tasty! With this little pedal, I can get MY sound out of it, which for me is important, because these days everyone else's sound have been copied and mimicked already.
It's heavy like a brick, you can probably knock someone out with it to defend yourself and it would still work perfectly.
I would pay the same price I paid for a new one if lost or stolen.

.Remember--it's a Tube Screamer that's voiced for bass. It's not a fuzzbox, it's an OVERDRIVE. It's meant to add a little dirt and boost--not to convert your signal to square wave. Like its older brother for the guitar, it's extremely touch-sensitive.

I have played through the TS9B and the Boss Bass Overdrive, which is the same price. The Boss pedal sounded artificial--it was like playing through a filter, and there was no difference in tone between lightly tapping the strings and bashing the living tweedle out of them. The TS9B is far more natural sounding. Much warmer, much smoother, and much better built than its Boss rival. Sure, the Boss can add way more crunch than the TS9B, but if you want lots of crunch, get a Big Muff.

I bought this pedal to fill out my bass tone while playing live, since my band is only a three-piece--and let me tell you, I'm EXTREMELY satisfied.
Very versatile. Usually, I'm not a fan of things with too many knobs, but it's nice to be able to add and subtract bass and treble independently while altering the mix between dirty and clean. It's versatile without being too complicated--and that's hard to achieve.
Just as stout as the original Tube Screamer.
A little pricey, but considering what you're getting, it's definitely worth it.

.As a bass player I'm always looking for something to make my tone deeper, phatter and punchier. I bought this pedal mostly so that I can say I have a tube screamer on my board, hey and guess what's it's made for the bass! But this thing makes my Geddy Lee bass sound like a Rickenbacker. Border Lemmy style sound. It doesn't muddy up your signal like a lot of other bass distortions I've tried. It gives my rig the added (and excuse my french) "SAC" when its needed. This thing is build like a tank and makes my bass sound like one coming down the hallway. I strong recommend this pedal to every bassist out there.

.I've had this for about 8 months now. Don't be fooled by what you're getting. This is a TS9 for the Bass so it doesn't have the same amount of gain other distortions/overdrives/fuzz pedals give. It has about the same amout of distortion a TS9 has for the guitar. It works great for slightly coloring your sound or giving a bit more dirt to get through the mix, or even as a boost pedal. I like this pedal a whole lot for the slight dirt but I also LOVE it for driving other pedals. I sometimes use it to drive my Ashdown Hyperdrive and it gives some really good distorted sounds that way. It sounds really good through tube distortion as well. This is NOT a fuzz or heavily distorted pedal, this is a TS9 voiced for the bass.
Great Features, the Bass and Treble Knobs are great for tweaking and the Mix is awesome and lets you dial in on how much distortion you want out of it and how much of the clean sound to come through.
Built like a decent pedal. My only complaint is that velcro doesn't like to stick to the bottom of it very well.
Overall a pretty good value. It's more expensive than some other drives, but it's worth it.

.I'm a little disappointed. This will still make for an okay overdirve pedal, but its not quite as flexible as I thought. Lets just say I'm glad I got it as a Christmas present instead of buying it out of my own pocket.
The bass comes with 5 knobs. Apparently the knob that gives the pedal volume is the "level" knob. I've seen several videos on this pedal, and it seemed like a fairly versatile overdrive/distortion pedal. When I got my hands on it though, it seemed like anything but: the level, drive, and mix controls feel like the only knobs that do anything (the bass and treble knobs don't do much unless they're turned all the way up).
The contruction seems really solid, this is one heavy metal pedal. However, its not without its problems. The battery function doesn't seem to work at all, though it still works with an adapter (thank God I had one). Also, if its plugged in but not on, prepare for some hum.
I feel a little cheated. Once I got my hands on it, this pedal doesn't feel as flexible as it was made out to be in Ibanez's promo video or a video review I watched. Like I said, the pedal hums when its not on, so you either need to use it or unplug it to avoid the feedback. Also, like I said before, the bass and treble knobs don't really make a difference unless they're turned all the way up.

.I was looking for an overdrive/fuzz pedal to help fill out my sound on a few songs my band and I play, as we don't have a second guitar player..

After reading the reviews, and watching/listening to the demo video, I decide this is the best option to go with. I wish music stores would carry items like this for Bass so we can try them out first, but thats another story..

I ordered online, receive the unit, and it esssentially just passes thorugh the signal. Drive and Mix cranked all the way. with no change from clean to dirty.. other than a secondary eq, or a boost due to the level knob.. this pedal does nothing..once the level is adjusted to be even on and off.. there is no difference.. So I exchanged the unit.

The second unit arrives. and I have the same issue. Biggest waste of money and my time ever.

Now I guess I'll find another pedal to get instead. but wanted to share my experience, because I was not finding another review out there with someone experiencing a similar issue. I thought for sure it had to be just a bad unit. But, after receiving a second, I'm not so sure.
overdrive pedal with no overdrive
just received a replacement for the first one I bought, and it doesn't do anything either

.Can´t be anymore perfect.
Ibanez 9 Series TS9B Bass Tube Screamer Overdrive Bass Effects Pedal Green
.It's OK.
Ibanez 9 Series TS9B Bass Tube Screamer Overdrive Bass Effects Pedal Green
.First these are not pick responsive by my standards. Second I never put the gain up it's always off. Third I love these things especially loud, like bar band volume. They sound world class and often I sound like a slide player to myself. They have just that verge of break up very little overdrive sound I love. I play blues and country. I use this one and the TS808. If you are looking for clean overdrive these may ba your baby. Best live and loud I think.
