I bought almost this same guitar as a kid. In fact, it was the first guitar I ever purchased. I retrofitted the humbucker with a Seymour Duncan and three months later, my friends and I had our first punk-rock band. 'Government Cheese' haha I sure made some lovely racket with that guitar... Played it all through high school as I was kinda poor and couldn't afford much more than strings. Later when I left for the army, my friends ended up destroying my poor love at a show.. And much like my first car or my first girl friend, I always missed it. And since this is the first time I had seen Ibanez put this model out in the same Candy Red finish,I picked one up as a spiritual successor!

The Rundown

The finish was flawless and if you like the colors in the pics, you will not be disappointed. The guitar is extremely light, though it is fairly sturdy; No gaps or cracks. No fret-buzz anywhere down the neck. My action was set pretty low right out of the box, so I haven't touched it. The fretwork is decent enough. No real jagged edges, though not exactly flawless. The electronics are great for a beginner guitar that cost me under 125 bones, but will leave you wanting if you are a seasoned player and used to playing more advanced guitars. Tuned it once out of the box. Played maybe a total of two hours over the weekend and I haven't had to re-tune. If you are a kid mowing lawns or an uncle looking for his nephew's first axe, pull the trigger.

It's also a nice buy if you are like me in that you don't like to drag out your nicer guitars when having beers and jamming in the garage or someone else is going to put their hands on it. haha

I'd close with reminding you that this review is really aimed at novice players with little cash.I suggest that you spring for one of the models with better electronics if you have the extra 100-200 clams. You will outgrow this guitar relatively quickly if you play a lot.

Cheers
