Product Features

As an industry leader in the use of exotic tonewoods, Ibanez continues to innovate with their new AEW Series. This fresh approach merges in the AEW2212CD-NT, with a spruce top and elegant cordia back-and-sides. The thinner, amplification-friendly body makes it a perfect choice for gigging singer-songwriters.

A "soft" Florentine cutaway provides easy accessibility all the way to the 17th fret. The Fishman Pickup and Ibanez AEQ-SP2 Preamp deliver excellent reproduction and control of tonal characteristics and easy operation, while 1/4" and XLR outputs give you options for a variety of direct plug-in applications.

The exotic cordia, which is also included in the rosette marquetry along with rosewood and spalted maple, will give you a distinctive tone and appearance that will garner attention and inspire the imagination. Let yourself be captured by the grandeur of the AEW Series.

I previously owned the EW2012ASENT (the one with the figured ash top and single inlay at F12) and consider that to be a superior instrument to this one while costing slightly less (though it is questionalbe if Ibanez will keep that guitar in the lineup). Wish I kept mine! That being said, note that this acoustic is only 3-3/4" deep. That's thinline territory. With that depth comes diminished low end punch and some snotty mids. When plugged in this is not so much an issue, but playing acoustically its just thinner sounding than a nice 4-1/4"+ depth guitar. Not a deal breaker as long as you know what your getting. It plays well, came well set up and was beautiful and flawless upon unpacking. Rubbed some lemon oil on the bone-dry fretboard and had a fun afternoon acquainting myself with the guitar.

.I have been playing for 27 years and have owned many guitars and this one is by far one of my favorites.
For starters, this guitar is absolutely gorgeous with many fine details. The craftsmanship is top notch, the finish is flawless.
It stays in tune extremely well and plays effortlessly. The sound is incredible unplugged and through a system; run it through a chorus pedal and it sounds like a choir of angels.
A guitar of this quality at this price... it was a no brainer.

.Neck is narrower then most 12 string guitars, size is smaller and very comfortable to play.

.Very easy to play, size is perfect.

.After getting the plastic nut and saddle replaced with bone. The Luthier set the action better than it was out of the box with a .012-.053 gauge set of strings. I took it home and switched out the plastic Bridge Pins for Brass ones and tuned the lady up to DGCFAD.
That's when everything changed very much for the better. It was almost 3 hours before I looked at my watch and realized how much time had past. I guess I was having waaay too much fun! But the initial investment with a little custom work has me playing an instrument the works with many styles and genre's of music. This is what I was hoping to achieve.
The Fishman transducer has full coverage of the strings across the saddle. The Ibanez preamp has seriously strong output but the EQ leaves a bit to be desired. I set it flat and plugged through a floor pedal graphic EQ and got much better control and adjustment.

.When it was delivered, I carefully inspected it and it was in perfect condition. Having played 12 string for decades I learned to tune them down a whole step to DGCFAD for handling and longevity if the guitar. Out of the box and retuned, I found myself greatly enjoying this investment. 90 minutes later I posted this to say this instrument is a worthy expense. I'll have to change the nut and saddle since bone has better sound. The plastic Bridge Pins will get switched for Brass ones. It is clear to me I'm getting a hard shell case since it came without a case. This guitar deserves more than a road bag to protect it. I was looking for a decent 12 string to start, knowing I would probably take it to a Luthier for final set up. I got that with this instrument.
