I have owned by Schecter Stiletto Studio 4 bass for four months now and love it. I play it live at least twice a week and it is tough. The neck alone is worth the price. I am a guitar player too, and this neck feels more like a guitar and it is not a thick nasty neck. You can move and make fast runs on this neck. The tone is great. It has a deep throaty tone that is good for rock. Make some eq adjustments and it will play funk just fine too. You do have to watch your mids on your amp because there can be so much punch at time I back it down slightly. The eq on the bass works great and is VERY sensitive. The pictures do not do this thing justice either. When I took mine out of the case I was shocked at how nice the finish is. The paint is very thin which allows the wood to breathe.Altogether I was surprised with how well it plays and sounds. I am very happy with my purchase

.I compared this bass right next to a Geddy Lee Jazz bass and was amazed by the the tone difference. The Schector is half the price and completely kills the Geddy Lee in tone. Much more versatility, more bottom end and better overall tone definition.

.This bass has a solid feel and a smooth, sweet tone!!

.I am a guitar player who plays bass (convincingly) from time to time. I sold a Music Man Stingray years ago and have attempted to find a quality bass to replace it for the past six months. This is an outstanding instrument and if there is something better in this price range I cannot imagine what it would be. I tried a made in Mexico Fender Jazz and a Lace Helix. They were made so poorly they had to be returned as unplayable. Schecter now has four instruments in my arsenal and they have never disappointed me. I do not know how other companies can charge so much for so little when Schecter is setting the bar so high.

.This bass is amazing. Great clean sound. Very versatile due to 3-band EQ. You can cut the mids, flatten the treble, boost the bass a bit, use 100% neck pickup and 15% bridge you'll have a great walking bass tone. You can then flatten the bass and boost the treble a bit to get a great jazz-soloing tone. It's amazing. However, the passive EMG's aren't too good for metal. If you want metal, I'd get either a high end ESP LTD or, if you can afford it, a Euro Spector.

.When I started playing bass, it was with my roommate's Ibanez GSR200, which suited me fine until I started to develop an ear for tone. I did a lot of research to find the best deal. After looking at this against Spector's Legend Custom, Ibanez's SRX700, and Peavey's Cirrus BXP, I settled on this one. Why? Slimmer neck, bubinga top, honey satin finish, 3-band EQ, Grover tuners keep it perfectly tuned... all hardware, setup, and electronics are top-notch. The only things that separate this from a pro bass (to my novice ears, anyway) are the preamp and pickups - which, mind you, are excellent, just not perfect. Some Bartolini upgrades, as well as Elixir strings and a good amp setup will give you a good enough tone for pretty much anything. The tone is very "active" and bright, so if you're looking for that more round, passive, jazzy Fender tone, look elsewhere... though it does lend itself well to finger-, tap- and slap-style playing. If I had more money to spend, I would have gotten a Stingray, but this one will do me fine for now. If you're interested, check ebay. You can usually get it in good condition for much, much less... sometimes even with a case. I did!

.I have owned this bass for a few months, it is a brilliant bit of kit. The active EMG pickups have been a favorite of mine for years, the mahogany body gives a lovely warm tone, it downtunes well and holds tuning forever. The hardware feels solid and well made, the through-neck is solid as hell, and the whole thing feels so well built you can't complain. I have played many basses that cost a lot more than this and none of them have matched it in playability and diversity. Plus, it looks the mutt's nuts. No complaints, well glad I bought it, will be my primary instrument for years to come.

.A good example of a "modern" souding bass. Active EQ allows for lots of tonal combinations although I find the EMG pickups lack personality straight though the amp (just a personal preferance - I'm an "old school" kind of bassist). Clean, tight sound - you can dial in the amount of high, low & mid you desire. Neck feels great - very fast & playable. Tuners work well. Fit & finish very well done. Minor drawback is the bridge saddles - tiny set screws don't really anchor the saddles to anything so they loosen up over time and just kind of fall out when you change the strings.

.It has a bit of a quack tone. I've owned and played this since December and while I like it, it's tone leaves something to be desired. It's very playable and all but it needs more punch. I'm considering putting in some Bartolinis and a nice preamp but we'll see.

.I got this guitar some time ago and have since then sold all of my other basses just because I don't need them anymore. The playability of this bass is superb. Everything is made to accomidate the needs and interests of every bassist. Excellent design, excellent bass guitar. I love it.
