I upgraded my DTxplorer kit with this module, and the drum sounds are better, but the cymbal sounds could be improved still. I find the programming is a little hard to do (definitely need the manual). It's not a bad module, but it's definitely not a great one either!

. 3 zone pads Snare and Cymbals use 1 trigger and 2 switches.
I don't know the wiring and may be hard to make.
Toms 1 and 2 can be setup for stranded 2 zone pads Tom3 single zone
Bass will work with anything
Since I'm using Gen 16 Cymbals, cymbals was not a issue.
I did have to buy a 3 zone for the snare. I bought a used 1 and it works great.
I used converted Remo Practice pads for Toms
does have plenty of trigger settings and with trial and error you can get very good results,

I thought of programming my own kit and using Tom 1, as snare input for a 2 zone snare but then settings like mixer will not work properly it was just easier to buy the 3 zone snare and worth it I can rim shot and cross stick like a real snare and the dynamics are good. Setup for snare was easy just pick the pad model from the options,

I still saved some money but not as much as I would without buying the snare.
If you need cymbal triggers buy the complete set and be done with it.
Building it help save some money for the Gen 16s and the kit is setup the way I like it.
I use Gen 16 cymbals because they will work with brushes and just sound better. I also have a acoustic snare I use for brush work

This module is outstanding for the price but for DIY you must be willing to spend some time.

.I didn't realize until later that the unit was not working properly, as it takes a while to set these things up, and tweak them. Because the unit was used and only had a 30 day warranty on it, they wouldn't take it back after the 30 days. I also live in Canada, and because I bought it through an American company, Canada will not touch it for repairs! I'm stuck with a unit I paid alot for, and it doesn't work properly. I'm not happy about this, but will be aware of international buying in the future! Custom Guitar's Friend should make sure that the item's they sell ACTUALLY WORK!!

.I bought this module up grade from my dtxplorer module. This module is junk. It has a lot of options. The snare drum turned all the way is still not very loud. You have to turn the rest of the drum set down to hear your snare drum.
Also, the cymbals sound like trash can lids being played. I thought the newer module would give you better drum voices not worse. I would stick with the older modules. I would not waste my money on this one.

.I have a mixed setup with cymbals and kick and home built toms & snare. I was able to get this dialed in pretty quickly. This is a basic four piece that I use for late night noodling and practice.

My one caveat is that I have used lots of gear in the past and find their interfaces fairly straightforward. I have known others to find them insanely difficult. If you've used gear before and found the interface hard, you'll probably find the same with this.

The user sample memory seems pretty anemic, but I haven't put the first sample on it, so I really can't complain all that much.
