Product Features

The YDP-V240 digital home piano offers 88-key graded hammer standard-weighted action. The YDO-V240 piano keyboard makes is truly a joy to play, both in practice and in performance. The keyboard's 3-level AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) dynamic stereo sampling voices deliver remarkably authentic sound. The YDP-V240 keyboard brings you a wide selection of amazingly realistic accompaniment styles for hours of interactive music enjoyment.

Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard with matte finish of black keys:
Just like on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. The keyboard's sensitivity can even be adjusted to match your playing style. This graded hammer standard technology also enables the piano to provide an authentic touch in a lightweight instrument. The matte finish of the black keys enhances the keyboard's luxurious appearance.

Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) dynamic stereo sampling:
The AWM (Advanced Wave Memory) is a sampling system that creates the realism of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument and apply high-quality, digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. The AWM dynamic stereo sampling can produce dynamic nuances of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression.

Amazingly realistic and dynamic sounds:
's highly acclaimed Sweet! and Cool! voices deliver an incredibly natural and very dynamic sound.

Digital Signal Processor (DSP):
238 types of DSP effects can be added to the main and dual voices. These range from reverb-like ambience effects to distortion and other dynamic processing tools that let you either enhance the sound or completely transform it.

Easy song arranger:
In addition to each song's default style, you can select any other style with the easy song arranger feature. This means you can play a song that is normally a ballad as a swing jazz tune, hip-hop tune, or many other styles. You can create totally different arrangements by changing the style of a song. You can also change the song's melody voice and the keyboard voice for a complete change of image.

Performance Assistant Technology (PAT):
Play along with a song on the instrument's keyboard and produce a perfect performance every time even if you play the wrong notes! Just keep in time with the music and you'll sound like a pro.

Music database plus external files:
If you want to play music in your favorite genre, but you're not sure how to select the best voice and style for the type of music you want to play, simply select the desired title from the music database and the panel settings will automatically be adjusted for the ideal combination of style and voices. Furthermore, this instrument can access music database files transferred from a computer or stored on a USB flash memory device. These files can be used right alongside the internal music database titles.

USB to device:
The YDP-V240 keyboard's USB to device allows you to connect USB memory devices such as flash drives or hard drives, enabling you to save or load registrations and user songs created on the instrument, as well as to read data from the connected device such as MIDI files or style files.

USB to host (for PC or MAC):
Dive in and take advantage of the wide world of computer music software. Computer connections and setup are exceptionally easy, and you can play back your computer-recorded parts with different instrument sounds all from this single digital piano.

Bring the joy of music into your home with the YDP-V240.

The Arius YDP-V 240 home digital piano is as good as it gets, short of being a Clavinova. I can't wait to get mine. Today I went to a music store about an hour's drive from my home to choose a digital piano. My main keyboard is an eight-year-old DGX 500, which was the closest I could come to owning a Clavinova at the time. The DGX 500 has a lot of nice features, but it still performs and sounds like a keyboard, as opposed to a digital piano. The moment I sat down at the Arius I found it a true joy to play. It was sitting next to a CVP 503 Clavinova, which I also played for comparison. The piano sample in the Clavinova was slightly better than the Arius, but not by much. There was also a slight difference between the Graded Hammer Standard and the Graded Hammer touch, but again, not by much. People talk about the Graded Hammer Standard mechanism being noisy. Perhaps it depends on how one plays and the type of music one plays. I didn't find noise to be an issue at all. The touch was satisfyingly pleasant to me. It is certainly better than any of the other keyboards I currently own. This Arius model has everything anyone could possibly want in a fine digital piano. There is a ton of instrument voices and loads of rhythms with automatic accompaniment styles. I even hooked up a USB portable disk drive to play some piano MIDI files. And wow! The sound blew me away! It sounded as if someone were sitting at the piano playing this wonderful recital for me. This instrument even looks like a piano, with its wood cabinet design and sliding key cover, which not only conceals the keys, but also the instrument's knobs and buttons. What's not to like? The fact that I wasn't in a hurry to get up from the piano bench speaks for itself. I said to the salesman, "This piano has my name on it." I decided to purchase the instrument from this dealer because we came up with a comfortable payment plan and the store will deliver it to my house fully assembled. For 20 years I've been clamoring for a Clavinova, which always seemed just beyond my reach. Until the Arius YDP-V 240. I look forward to owning this instrument because it's as good as it gets.

.I expected a much better keyboard action of YDP240V than what I experience. From my perspective, the DSP and arranger are not as valuable as the feel of the keyboard.

The keys feel very springy, not realistic at all. Well, they are somewhat heavy, so it's not like playing a plastic wobbly key, but still not very satisfactory. Unlike a real piano, you have to press the keys very very softly even with keyboard sensitivity set to hard in order for the key not to make a sound. I used to own a P80 (which has GH action), and the difference is huge.

As far as the sound is concerned, the piano voices are ok. I wouldn't call them great. Reverb helps a bit to get a brighter feel, but not to the point where I am wowed.

The piano has pretty good visual appeal. Everything but the power cord is pretty much hidden out of sight, so it looks nice in the living room.

In hindsight, I should have paid more attention to reviews of keyboard action, including 's description of the differences and most likey I would have been happier with something like YDP181.
The piano is loaded with all kinds of features -- it has everything that I need and much more that I will never use.
It looks good, but I'm not terribly happy with the sound. It's a bit dull, at least when playing it like a traditional piano without an arranger.
If I paid of order $1k for it, I would have found the value of the instrument adequate. The keys make it feel very cheap.

.This instrument makes music fun. If you closed your eyes, you'd think the weighted, touch-sensitive keys were on a grand piano. The sound is realistic and the accompaniments are good. No complaints; only joy.
Yamaha Arius YDP-V240 88-Key Digital Piano
.It would be nice if the stand mounted to the piano with hand operated bolts rather than needing a screw driver. This would make it easier to transport for the occasional move. The piano sounds are excellent. It is good to have the reverb options. Speakers sound good but I wish they could play louder.
