Product Features

The EMX5016CF delivers the convenience of an integrated powered mixer with input capacity, flexible features, and solid sound that critical live applications demand. It is remarkably compact and portable for a live sound system with this much capability. And thanks to leading digital technology, the EMX5016CF also includes a number of innovations that make it easier than ever to achieve top-class sound in just about any venue. An impressive power output of 500 watts per channel means it can handle fairly large audiences, indoors or out.

Versatile 16-input configuration adapts to varied source requirements
The EMX5016CF has a total of 16 input channels-eight for monaural microphone or line input plus four stereo pairs. The stereo channel pairs can function either as monaural microphone inputs or stereo line inputs. This system gives you extra microphone inputs if your sources are mostly microphones, or if you need to handle more stereo sources, the EMX5016CF will comfortably handle four pairs in addition to eight mono mic or line inputs.

Advanced channel EQ
3-band EQ is available on all input channels, but extra versatility is provided on the eight mono channels with mid-frequency sweep controls. The mid EQ center frequency can be continuously swept from 250 Hz through 5 kHz so you can precisely pinpoint frequencies in the critical midrange.

Ample I/O for expansion and integration
All you need to create a powerful, high-performance live sound system is the EMX5016CF, a pair of speakers or two, and your sources. But it does feature a range of inputs and outputs that allow it to be expanded with external gear or integrated into larger systems. Insert patch points on the mono input channels, for example, let you add outboard signal processing to individual input channels. And although you have all the monitor power and effects you're likely to need built in, external aux and effect sends allow you to route the mixer's signals to external signal processing and/or monitor systems as required. Stereo out, stereo sub-out, and record outputs are also provided.

One-knob compression on the first 8 channels
The EMX5016CF features compressors on all monaural microphone/line channels that can help to make vocals ride the mix better, give you that smooth compressed guitar sound, deliver more punchy bass, and generally refine your mixes in a multitude of ways. These unique one-knob compressors are surprisingly simple to use. There are no multiple attack, threshold, makeup gain, and other controls-just set the COMP control to the amount of compression you need.

9-band digital graphic EQ with presets & memory
This advanced digital 9-band stereo graphic equalizer goes way beyond conventional analog types with a refined control interface, instant-recall presets, and user memory locations. It also works with the console's innovative Frequency Response Correction system (see below) for unprecedented response-shaping control. Of course you can manually adjust each band as required from scratch, but you can also use one of the presets-vocal, dance, or speech-as a starting point and edit from there. You also have three user memories into which you can store your own EQ curves for instant recall whenever needed.

FRC (Frequency Response Correction) System
Setting a live sound system's output equalizer to optimally match room response is normally a complicated process requiring noise generators, calibrated microphones, real-time analyzers, and a great deal of time and experience. The EMX5016CF handles the entire process automatically, using either pink noise or a recorded music source you supply. To precisely match the system's response to the room you're in all you need to do is set up a microphone in an appropriate location, connect it to channel 1, and press the measure/correct button once to make the measurement, and then again to automatically set the graphic equalizer for optimized response. The EQ setting can then be stored in one of the user memories for later recall if needed.

Automatic Feedback Suppression
Although the graphic equalizer can be used for feedback control, the EMX5016CF provides a Feedback Suppressor system that is dedicated to the job. The Feedback Suppressor works by detecting feedback frequencies on the stereo bus and applying precise notch filters to eliminate the feedback. The Feedback Suppressor has an automatic mode that automatically keeps track of and attenuates feedback frequencies for you, and a sensitive manual mode that lets you pinpoint and attenuate feedback points one by one.

Multi-band "Maximizer"
The EMX5016CF "Maximizer" is an advanced 3-band compressor that can be applied to the stereo bus for a more punchy "up-front" overall sound. Simply press the maximize switch to instantly give the mix more presence and impact without sacrificing musical subtlety.

Dual SPX effect processors
The EMX5016CF includes not one but two top-performance SPX digital effect processors built in! You might only need ambience effects such as reverb and delay for live sound applications-and the EMX5016CF includes some of the finest reverb and delay effects available-but if you need other effects as well they're right at your fingertips, and you can use two different effects simultaneously. Each effect processor offers a selection of 16 top-quality effects including reverb, echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, and even distortion, with editable parameters that allow you to customize each effect.

Dual aux sends
Aux 1 and aux 2 send controls with pre/post fader switching adjust the level of the channel signal sent to the auxiliary buses for monitoring or external effects send. The availability of two aux sends provides considerable flexibility for effect and monitor routing. You could, for example, use the channel effect controls to control send level to the internal SPX effect processor while using aux 2 to feed an external effects unit, and aux 1 to feed a stage monitor system.

I play bass & run the mixer from on stage. The EMX5016CF is perfectly suited for someone with a working knowledge of live sound & having to make adjustments on the fly. Board layout is very easy to navigate, be it setting up on a tight schedule in a poorly lit room or tweeking the monitor mix during a song...Previously owned a MG206G mixer & though it's an excellent board if your a sound engineer, not so user friendly if your pounding out a bass line & the singer needs more monitor, NOW! If you have, or have used, an EMX200/300/500 this mixer is the same familiar layout with some very useful additions. 500 watts is an improvement over my old reliable EMX300 plus 4 additional mic channels (8 if you count stereo). Also you have auto feedback control on mains out, 2 FX channels, 2 aux channels, digital 9 band EQ with presets & other bells & whistles I may never use. Having no seperate EQ for monitors/aux 1&2 (one glaring flaw) was a blessing in diguise though. I switched the power amp selector to stereo out for the mains & ran a line from, aux 1 out(monitors), to a seperate 15 band Beringer EQ w/feedback detector to a stereo power amp. This not only cleaned up my main speakers with mic'd amps & drums but also cleaned up the vocal monitors. As an added bonus I can run anywhere from 1 to 4 monitors off the seperate stereo power amp vs. 1- 2 monitors off of one channel from the mixer. For a working band on a budget that lacks a sound engineer & the racks of gear that goes with it, this is the one! This mixer has all the tools (but one), the EMX5016CF sounds as good as you make it.
Can only use one EQ setting at a time, mains out. Would prefer using a 2nd EQ for monitors/aux 1 out.
I have never had a problem with any of my gear, includes 3 seperate mixers, main speakers, monitors & 2 power amps.
Would be worth every penny if I could access that 2nd EQ out.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.This is one of the best sounding live powered mixer I have ever used!! I owned Mackie 808m and the 808s which are okay, IMO all of the emx5000 series sound way better, for tone, clarity, than any of the Mackie powered series mixers.

If you only want to use the two amps in the EMX-5016 and run mono for the mains, here is how to connect 31-band EQ to help reduce feedback for the monitors!

Answer!
1. Turn the power routing switch #41 to (AUX-1/MONO)
2. Send AUX-2 output to the EQ input
3. EQ's output to one of the line level inputs, stereo channels 9-16? chose one!
4. set the AUX-1 switch button #10 for the channel you use to Pre, button should be down.
5. For the channels you want to run through your monitors, turn only AUX-2 #9 to desired output level, leave AUX-1 off 0db.
6. on the channel you used for step 3, turn the AUX-1 #9 to optimum level. turn the channel on #13, but set channel fader #17 to minimum/off.
7. turn AUX-1-2 faders to desired output level.

this will allow you to route EQ from AUX2 to EQ to AUX1 to AMP-1. Yes it's allot of steps! but it works, I do this for small gigs when running mono.

I love this mixer!!!
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.I have played about 80 gigs with this mixer. It is easy to set up. You don't need outboard processors (although I use a feedback destroyer to the monitor feed). You don't need to lug around heavy amps. The compression effect is easy to set for voices, bass and bass drum. The feedback eliminator really works for the mains. The sound is sweet. There is plenty of power. I run a sub out to a small Mackie subs and the mains through some nice 12" JBLs and that's all I need to play small to moderate size venues. Yesterday, I set up an outside gig (about 300 people). I ran 4 speakers and 2 powered subs with the 500 Watt setting and there was plenty of power. If you need anything bigger, hire a sound company.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.I'd probably give it a best in class title. like I said, I'm personally not a big fan of yamaha's boards (there not bad boards, I just prefer the sound of other brands a bit more), but I recommended this for my church. no other powered mixer that I could find had as many features and as much power in the amps as this one. having worked on much bigger and better boards I could gripe all day about the little things (3-band eq), but the only way to get anything better is to go with an unpowered mixer and outboard amps, and we just couldn't afford that. this board's a great deal.
built in effects are decent, compressor knob is usefull on many sources, graphic eq could be 15 band instead of 10 but it's just enough, and the feedback supressor can be a life saver. the configurability is where this board really proves its value. I can't stand only having a 3 band eq instead of a 4 band on my channels.
yamaha makes decent analog boards. I'm just personally not a fan of them but we use it at my church through a set of jbl jrx115's and it works perfectly fine.
honestly it packs a lot of punch. plenty of features, yamaha name, great functionality. unless you need 16 mic inputes it's a pretty good deal.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.I have had this mixer for several years. I play in a Country/Rock band and use it to run sound for other bands. I use the channel eq to set up the monitors first, then I use the Graphic EQ to tweak the mains as the graphic does not affect the aux mix. I use one effects channel as a third Aux for a seperate monitor mix. At small venues I use the internal amps to drive the mains and monitors. For larger gigs I use an external main and sub amp, I use the internal amp to drive the monitors. This mixer has many features for the price. I would certainly recomend this mixer.

.I use this pretty much only for my weekend mobile DJ business and it does the job easily. I guess the monitor EQ situation would be a big bummer if I used that feature, but I don't so I don't miss it. I also have the smaller 8 input mixer (2x500w) as a backup and they both work great and are light weight so moving them around is no problem. I recently sold my very heavy (but nice sounding) Mackie 808S because it was just too heavy too move around. powered mixers are winners!
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
. I love the equalizer part, and again the weight, saves my back. I still have the old EMX 5000, and one thing I could not understand is why they did not include an "AMP Input" for this mixer. You will not be able to use the built-in amp for monitor. And that sucks, I believe the "amp in" is more important than the individual compressor for versatility.
It's almost got everything you need.
It has a very good sound and made light. It's almost as if there is no amplifier inside.
The handle was screwed in at the right spot, so easy to carry.
Not really cheap for non working musicians.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.I've owned it, for 2yrs. it offers alot of features. 1 control comp, good. sonic max, good. dual effx, only fair. some effex rather cheeze. i won't go on about all the good things. The emx5016cf lacks power at 8 or 4 omhs. if you push it the eq is lacking. not to metion the obvious lack of separate monitor eq. I thought as many of you have; i won't have much eq problems with monitors. i'll keep stage volume down etc. it hasn't worked out very well trying to do so with 4 members beating out loud stage volume. so... i'm having a tech friend of mine modify the unit. by adding 2 return jacks in the right place of the signal path. bypassing the internal eq. when patching from aux 1 and 2 sends in to external eq's inputs then out to added return jacks. allowing me to use amp A for mains and amp B for monitors with separate external eq for both mains and monitors. when patch cords are removed, the unit will be just as it was before. 1 eq for all speakers at left/right main outputs. of course, i'll have to use aux 1 and 2 on each channel strip and masters aux 1 and 2 faders. and use aux 1 and 2 aux position of switch. will it work ? i think so. with a good tech. 2 small holes to be drilled in frame to accept the new return jacks,1/4 mono or RCA and a rerouting of signal path. an external eq and patch cords is a bit of a bother. gain, would be more avalable power. paraleling 8 ohm speaker LOAD down to 4 ohms for mains and monitors with separate eq for both. i think if we wait long enough will build a monitor eq for the EMX5016cf. i don't think i wait.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.Great sounding board with good power for small venues. Easy to use and portable with lots of great features. Easy to grasp controls. Sounded good straight out of box.
Yamaha EMX5016CF 16-Input Powered Mixer with Dual 500-Watt Power Amps
.After purchasing Presonus, Mackie, Peavey, Behringer, and SoundCraft boards all in the past couple of years. I would have to say is my second choice only to Presonus. You just can't go wrong with the boards. Great quality in this price range.
