I have the full Stage Custom set, which includes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, snare, and 20" kick.

The set sounds good, even with stock heads.
When you receive your kit, one of the 1st things you'll notice is that the heads are on way too tight. The only heads I didn't adjust was on the snare.

My only issue has been with tuning the 12" tom.

With the exception of the 12" tom, all the other toms were easy to tune. The shells resonate well
when the batter and resonant heads are tuned the same.

After 3 hours verse 20 min., I have been able to get the 12" tom close to resonating the shell with a nice tone.

Roughly, tune the tom. More than likely its going to sound like a thud when you strike the head.
Next, adjust one lug up and down while very lightly tapping the head near that lug. You will
hit a noticeable sweet spot where the tom produces overtones (rings longer). Tune the remaining lugs in the same manner. That's the easy part. Most of my time was spent on the last stage. Tune the batter and resonate head the same trying to keep the overtones intact. You will find 1/8 of a turn or less is required to get the heads tuned the same. You will also find 1 lug off will destroy the overtones. You will also find a very small tuning range window if you want the tom's shell to resonate like the others in this set.

Beware of the free gift (cymbals) offer that comes with the set. If you buy the set expecting to receive the cymbals with your order, nix that.
I've been waiting a month and no cymbals. The delivery date moves back once or twice a week. Currently, the cymbals are backorder an additional month. Bottom line, if your counting on the cymbals, like me, call and confirm the cymbal stock. I made the mistake of logically assuming that they would have set aside a cymbal set with the drum set so they could complete the order. I have also called to see if I could purchase a more expensive set in its place, they said no because is was part of a package deal. I tried this three times hoping the previous person was incorrect.

.I've had one of these for about a year and a half now. I love the kit. The finish is gorgeous, and the bearing edges were nice out of the box. The snare drum is the only part of the kit that I don't use, just could never get it to sound "right" (although it would probably be passable for most). I replaced all the head with Evans heads which really brought out the drums' potential. I found the YESS mounting system to choke the drums and got a couple of Gauger RIMS mounts. The drums are bright and clear, but with tons of low end. I've had a few kits in my day, some high-end, expensive. This kit sound as good as any I've ever played, better than most. Hard to go wrong with this one.

.The drums themselves are excellent at this price point. Great hardware. Very similar to the flagship Recording Customs which I play. They were purchased for a student but a professional could easily use them and be satisfied. I have one problem with the product and that is the packaging by . It took 4 drumsets shipped via UPS before I received one not damaged. Shippers can be rough moving boxes. So should do a better job packaging. Again, great drum set but thoroughly check upon receiving.

.I got the 20" Bass shell kit. Smaller drums, lighter, easier to load/unload and setup. Has nice full punchy sound just like my larger kits. High end hardware and fantastic looking finish. I have nothing negative to say about this kit.

I've had these drums for about a decade, the black. I chose black because years ago my school had em and looked sick on stage, and really look amazing black with chrome under the stage lights etc. I bought because of reputation and sounded amazing at our high school at the concerts, and indeed don't dissapoint. Add a set of zildjian zbt or a, a custom if can, and rock the house! Also you can add more toms separately. Great sound, great reputation, used my the pros: steve gadd, pearl jam, weckl, igoe etc etc.

.Bought this kit in cranberry red for my son about a year ago. Finish is flawless. Really well-made, no dents or inconsistencies. Shells and hardware feel solid. Especially like the adjustability of the tom mounts -- really smart. Replaced the batter heads with a Remo ambassador on the snare and pinstripes on the toms and am very happy with the sound. Never tried the heads that came with it so I can't comment on those. I'd imagine they're fine. These kits are often used as house kits and can be found in plenty of recording studios. Overall, a great set especially for the money. Just put your heads of choice on them and you're good to go. Highly recommended.

.As a total novice with acoustic drums, you'll have to take my review for what it is. This is my first kit, so I have very little point of reference. Bottom line is that I haven't found any drawbacks to this kit so far. It was easy enough to assemble that a first-timer could do it without breaking anything, losing any pieces, or having any pieces left over. The tom mounts are great, and provide a lot of adjustment to accommodate players of various heights. And most importantly for me, they record very well in my home studio. I've had to learn to tune drums (not easy for a beginner!), and to get everything positioned and adjusted for ease of use. Nothing about this kit has stood in my way or prevented me from doing exactly what I want in this regard. Plus, the name brand garners a lot of respect from me. This kit is no exception to my fanhood. The smaller tom size makes them want to be tuned a little higher than a rock and roller would normally want, but I've found them to be accommodating to slightly lower tunings that fit into my rock mixes very well. And don't worry about the 20" kick one bit. Once I tuned it, put an Evans EQ pad inside, and ported the resonant head (for interior microphone placement), it really packs a punch despite its small size. I'm also very impressed with the snare. Once I got it tuned up properly, it sounds great. Lots of snap to it, and lots of tone from the resonant head and snare wires.
