Overall, it is a great bass. I gave it four stars just because I don't have that much experience and I'm sure there are basses out there that are even better.
If you have the chance, try it out before you buy it. I didn't because I saw it on the web and got really excited, lol. But take a chance to look it over, and don't get too syched about it. Just thought it was good advice.
(Just to let you know, this is my very first bass, so I can't say I have enough experience to compare to any other basses.)
The features on this bass are quite good. EQ controls definitely have an effect on the sound, although the treble EQ doesn't make much of a difference except for creating more background sound and increasing other disturbing (in my opinion) noises.
Tuners are good, although they tend to go flat slightly quickly.
There is a bit of fret buzz, but I adjusted the truss rod and bridge to another level and no it sounds just fine.
The quality is great. Don't trust the photo! It's much nicer than it looks there. More organic, I'd say.
Although natural finishes don't all come the same, I'm sure they're all pretty nice.
The wood work came out pretty top notch. There wasn't alot of blemishes at all; no scratches, nothing.
So far it's survived pretty good. The bass has been through two flights a cheap roadrunner gig bag wrapped up in scarves. However, I may have just been lucky.
I can't say it's a bang on the buck, haha, because I've never bought another bass. But from having seen some more basses on the interent, I must say, for the looks and great EQ, as well as the rest of the solid build, I say its a nice price for such a bass.
Since you can do alot of things with a set of Fender tapewounds (that's what I'm using) and some foam by the bridge (oldies, soft rock, some soul, etc.) I think this bass can definitely suit up for a variety of styles and sounds. I even achieved some upright sound when I cranked up the bass and changed to bridge pickup.
And don't think it stops only there! With the strings it comes with (rounds) you can definitely play to metal (if that's what you like)! Check out some vids in utube and you'll see what I mean (fyi, it's not me).

.I was set to buy a Peavey Grind when they came up on backorder til June. I decided to keep looking for that perfect beast. Oh my what is this..ESP LTD D4. I know...I'll do some research and learn all there is to know about it. I could find no reviews anywhere. Finding nothing else comparable in terms of looks and features, I went ahead and bought it knowing I could return it. Man was I glad that Peavey was backordered. This thing feels awsome. Solid. Sustain. The Deep lows and twangy highs(which I could do without) were easily dialed up. The finish is gorgeous. I couldn't be happier with the guitar. Wish it came with a case. That would be the topper.

.I would have paid more for this bass if the price had been higher. All I did was change the strings to pyramid gold flats and drop the bridge about 30 percent. This guitar is perfect. Smooth fast play and you can get any tone you want out of it. Any and all who disagree have not been around long.

.This is my first bass I have ever owned and I have been using it for almost 9 months playing every Sun and practicing almost daily. The only problem I have had is the input jack came loose but I re tightened it and its been good ever since. Other bass players that have heard this bass and tried it out have really liked the sound it produces and excellent playability. When I was shopping for this bass and comparing it to other bass guitars this one sounded better than others that cost more. I am very happy with it and I would definitely recommend this bass.

.Just picked this thing up and its my new weapon of choice. The merbau body sounds better then any mahogany, ash or alder body especially with the neck through, and the neck is super thin so you can play it faster than any Peavy or Ibanez. All the hardware is top quality from the tuners to the bridge. The ESP factory pickups are not as good as the factory pickups in any of my ibanez, but they are still prety good. The finish is super high quality and the looks are great. You will not find any better bang for your dollar. BUY THIS BASS NOW! You will not regret it.

.This bass is my first real bass. It has great quality sound, and this is with the factory strings. The setup from the factory was excellent. I was on back-order for a Peavey grind, but am happy that I got this bass instead. The active electronics give you a great varitety of sounds and you can dial up the right sound for you. The finish is sweet and stylish, for my tastes. Get this bass as it will not let you down!

.Well I got this bass a few months ago. It looks WAY better in real life than in the picture. You can get so many different sounds out of this bass, good for any sort of music. I can get a nice growl out of it, even with my mediocre Behringer 300 watt combo amp. The reason for the 4 on the quality is because after a couple months of having it almost every little thing on it started to come loose or fall off. The tuners, the imput jack, the EQ nobs, and even the pickups all came loose and a couple of them fell right off. Its really annoying to fix them and constantly tighten them all, but still, its not a big deal at all. One little tip for this bass, dont wear a belt buckle with lots of details on it and rock out, because the back will get scratched up really bad easily, but you can really only see it in the light. Overall, its probably the best bass you can but for its price. WAY rather have it than anything else within its price range.

.I was very pleased with this exceptional instrument. The only problem I had was finding a tiny allen wrench to secure the bass/treble knob. I would recomend this "wolf in sheeps clothing" to anyone who enjoys sustain and active electronics.

.Great bass for the price. Looks great, sounds great and plays great. A friend who plays professionaly could not believe I got this good of a bass for the price.

.Well this bass just came to my door step a bit ago. It is beautifull to look at, the action was a bit high but a liitle adjustments fixed that, no biggy. The neck thru construction is so smooth and feels amazing! I plan on switching the pick ups out in the future but the ones that are in there now will do me just fine. So over all this bad boy will be my primary bass for a long long time. for all you bass players out there looking for an amazing bass for an amazing price, BUY THIS BEAST!!!!
