Product Features

The body of the ESP LTD D-6 Bass Guitar is shaped out of merbau, a hardwood native to Southeast Asia giving it a dark hue similar to mahogany. In fact, if it wasn't for the lighter maple of the 5-piece maple/mahogany neck-thru design, you'd have a hard time discerning that this was a neck-thru design from outside appearances as the dark woods are a very close match. The neck itself is a thin "U" shape with a double cutaway design making it easier for players of all sizes to access the frets with ease. This standard scale (34") 6-string bass sports a 54mm standard nut, 24 XJ frets, a rosewood fingerboard, Grover tuners, an ESP DB-6 string-thru-body bridge, and black nickel hardware. The electronics include dual ESP SB-6 (bridge & neck) pickups with an ESP ABQ-3 3-band active EQ which lets you boost or cut lows, mids, and highs before the signal ever hits your amp.

Case sold separately.

If you want a good sounding 6 string and your on a tight budget, look no farther, This is the best bass you can get for the price, it could be worth so much more. The neck is very thin, fast and friendly. The tuners are good and stays in tune, The strings are decent, low, and set up right out of the box. However, due to the thinner neck, the strings are much closer than normal making it harder to double pluck and slap, other than that, it is a very fun and easy instrument to play. Also, it is a neck-through which makes it even easier to play, sustain notes and be considered more attractive. It is hard to find a good neck-through at this price, so basically this is a steal. And also it looks really good, it looks like a more expensive instrument then what it is, people will be fooled if you tell them the actual price. This instrument is good for any style you are looking to play, it has a very nice sound for slapping, Then it has a nice warm heavy rock sound if you are looking for a more heavy warmer sound. This bass has a great clear punchy sound that will work well with any type of amp, or through any PA system or recording, it is very good to use in the studio, or in any live setting. It has a clear bright tone that can be mistaken for a Waaaayy more expensive bass, almost similar to the expensive top of the line Ibanez six strings. I have played basses from Tobias, Warrick, Ibanez, Ken Smith, Conklin, Shecter, Yamaha, Rickenbacker, and all sorts of fender jazz basses from America, Mexico, and even Korea and this thing sounds just as good as all the very expensive basses. It holds its own and deserves respect and consideration. However if possible, eventually replace the strings with better quality strings, and i recommend to replace the pickups with Bartolini pickups for more of a growl attack, the stock pickups are really good though, however the Bartolini pickups give this bass a little more of a attack, this is a change that is NOT necessary, if desired, you can just get a good preamp and this thing will rock, again this is not a huge deal or really necessary, it sounds good by itself. This thing is a awesome sounding, playing and even looking instrument, even with the stock pickups, get this instrument and you won't regret it. I highly recommend it, this is a really good 6 string on the market, just as good as a top of the line bass at a excellent value, this deal is unbeatable.

.I got this bass delivered to my door, and out of the box it was nearly perfect. The tune was just a bit off, not surprised as it was as cold as the outside temperature. It did have one blemish on the bottom where it looks like there was a bubble on the finish before it dried. The action was a bit too low, buzzing nearly all the notes below the 7th fret, but one screw and 1/4 turn on both truss rods and it was fixed.

Still amazed by the look and feel, the thinness of the neck is quite frankly, astonishing. You wouldn't think a 6 string bass could possibly have a neck as thin as a guitar and still sound good, but again, ESP has delivered. The SB-6 pickups are decent, not as punchy as I would like, but really, for the price, it isn't an issue. Not single issue that would prevent me from saying: "don't buy this product".

Take the plunge and get your own D-6, you won't be disappointed.

Overall score: 9.2/10
EMGs or Bartollini pickups would make this the perfect bass.

.This is, hands down, the best bass I have ever played. I owned a rogue 6 string before this one and this bass blows that out of the water. Well worth the money and if your looking for a 6 string this is the one to go with. Every thing about this bass is amazing. The pick ups are solid, strings are good, body is solid, not too heavy, string spacing is small, the neck isnt too wide even for someone with small hands. Overall I would recomend this bass to anyone and everyone.

.Really good action, good sustain, slightly scooped tone naturally. Run your amp with flat EQ and a fair amount of compression or straight into the board with some compression and a DI gives a solid clear presence. That clarity, however, will punish you for your mistakes, so hit the right notes............
I was looking for a six string neck through with mahogany/maple neck, similar to my 1976 4001 Rickenbacker that I bought new. It's action is just as good, and sustain as well. The active pickups give it a good raunchy sound, but a bit "zingier" high end than the Rick. It is a lot less noisy as far as hum from flourescents and dimmers than the Rick, The neck pickup is less "plunky" than the Rick, more like a Fender jazz. Bridge pickup by itself with some treble added and bass dialed back with mids in the center gives a really good slap tone. Alittle more deep bottom end than the old Rick, as well.
The finish on the neck had a few small bumps in it that I used really fine steel wool to smooth out.
Really good price with fantastic action and manly tone.

.Best bass ever. Buy it and you won't be able to put it down.
is fantastic! It was about time for me to upgrade to a new bass so i needed one with everything. Neck-thru design, beautiful wood, and a 3 bang EQ. This is probably one of the nicest basses you will ever play. You would never have guessed it that wasn't a higher dollar instrument.
The fact that this is a solid piece of surprisingly beautiful wood wake this a fantastic purchase. The design makes it so you can get incredibly low action. nice thi8n neck too! The one and only thing i would change are the pickups. Though much better than some other esp pickups i've had, i feel like these give you a little of a washed up sound, and i always have a little bit of unwanted distortion. So i recently bought some EMGs i am still waiting on. Like i said, this is the only thing i don't like about this bass.
You will never find another bass like this for the money. Change the pickups and get some new strings, then this will be the nicest bass you will ever have in your possesion! (ESP guitars have recently started putting on Stay in Tune strings with every bass. They suck, so i would definetely change the strings.)

.Overall I think it's a good buy, I may replace the bridge later on with something heavier like a Hipshot but it's not required, just a preference. I gave it 9's across the board except for value which was a 10, a 10 across the board to me is a Yamaha TRB-6P.
Active electronics sound good, nice growl to it. The string spacing is 16.5mm for those that want to know that, I prefer wider spacing but for me the change was easy to get used to.
Nice finish on all surfaces, bery well built, and heavy! The quality of the hardware is nice too, and the bridge is string through body or bridge.
Great value! It's hard to find a neck through 6-er that plays and sounds as good as this one. I've been playing bass for about 30 years and like what ESP/LTD has to offer.

.I have had many basses and many more expensive basses. This is not the best bass that you can ever own, far from it; however, for a bass that is in this price range, or one slightly above, you will be hard pressed to find one better. This is a great bass to use as a backup to a main bass. Very heavy on the mids and the 3 band EQ leaves a lot to be desired, but for a backup it is hard to beat.

.I initially bought a 5 string bass for very little money. Since I was learning bass I thought it was an inexpensive way to get into bass guitar. It was worth it but the guitar was very uneven. Some notes sustained for a very long time and the note right next to it (on the same string) would not sustain at all. So even thought it was a good enough guitar to get my feet wet it was not supportive musically.
The LTD D-6 cost more but you can play gigs with this guitar. Actually, it is very well made and sounds pretty even. No guitar is ever perfect in evenness across the strings and up and down the neck, but this one is very good indeed.

.this is a quality instrument for the price. its very reliable, and has never let me down for any style of music, if you are new to 6 string bass, this is perfect for learning, however if you are doing any serious giging and taking it on the road, i would recommend replacing the pickups, and keeping it in a hard shell case. if you are new to 6 string, be prepared for the wide fretboard, it takes some getting used to, especially if you have smaller hands like myself.
the 3 band eq is great, especially if you want to change tones on the go, and the pickup blend gives you the ability to play in many deferent styles and sounds. unfortunately the pickups are not very clear and always sound slightly washed up, so if you want a brighter tone i would strongly recommend swapping them with some EMGs or other quality pickups. also, the action on this bass is surprisingly low, giving it good playability. the finish is wonderful, looks good anywhere, i just wish it wasnt flat top. the thin neck is great, and the finish doesnt slow you down when your hands get sweaty.
my only complaints are 1) the pickups mentioned earlier 2) the low B string usually doesnt sound very good, i dont know if that relates back to the pickups or if the problem lies elsewhere and 3) the nobs come loose after a while and become impossible to keep tight, i suspect there is some striping in there but iv been to lazy to check it out lately. beyond that it is a quality instrument. the tuners hold tune forever
when i originally bought this bass around 2007, i believe it cost a little more than it is priced now, looking back, i dont think i would ever pay that much for this bass again, however, the current price seems appropriate
