I bought this when the price was at 350 bucks. Great deal! Still good at 400, so I was fortunate to get it when I did. The first thing I tried was to use it in the effects loop of my amp, so I could use the amp's overdrive and only use the modulation and delay effects of the M9. It sounded good, however, the compressors and distortions sound awful after the preamp. No big deal, I was using my amp's distortion and my own Vox wah and overdrive pedal before the amp. When I tried hooking the M9 in front of the amp, not using the loop, I was pleasantly surprised. I run my Vox wah first, then this M9, and that's it! I do run a BBE in the loop, but it can sit on top of the amp since I never turn it off. How quick and easy to set up and what great sounds I'm getting! People complain about the distortions on this unit. There are alot of different flavors to choose from, and I found that all I need is the "classic distortion", modeled after the Pro Co Rat. I use it with the drive on about 25 percent for most rhythm playing and about 90 percent for long sustaining solos and other lead work. When off, I get my amp's natural clean sound. This works with both my Fender twin and my Marshall half stack. Just set the amp as clean as possible, get the tone you like, then set up your distortion tone on this box. The mod effects are good, not great. I mainly use the analog chorus setting for some things. Sometimes I use the flanger, not the best flanging I've heard, but useable. The reverbs are really cool, however for live shows, I use the reverb in my amp. The filter effects are mainly wierd, but I love the harmonizer! Set it for D minor and up a 3rd, and wail away on White Room! LOL! Last but not least, the delays are fantastic! I love the tap tempo, which can be set before you turn on the delay! This is sweet because you can set your delay time before your big solo, then kick it in when needed. I set some for quarter note delays and some for dotted eighth note delay, which is my favorite. The looper is alot of fun and I have used it to show off at gigs. It is also a great timing trainer and practice tool. Another use for the looper is to record a basic rhythm, have your drummer put a beat to it, put down your guitar and walk around the room to hear what your rig sounds like. .I've never written a review or cared to write one, but the M9 is really everything I was looking for so I figure I should pay it respect. First, I've had many problems with line 6 in the past, mostly being poor build quality and overall tones that sound lhorrible. But the M9 is superbly built and has great tonality. The m9 has a massive amount of features from EQ, tons of effects, overdrive, looper, etc. (there's a lot). I have an Orange Rockerverb 100 and the tone is naturally dark with little presence to the overall sound, especially the dirty channel. I wanted something to beef up the sound and add atmospheric affects without touching any of the natural tone of the amp. The M9 was perfect for doing so. The EQ mode works wonderfully for adjusting and fine tuning your amps natural sound. I got my Orange to sound much heavier and more clear without loosing the Orange tone. The effects are awesome and can allow for some very creative sounds. There's more effects than you'll know what to do with. The looper works great, it allows for half speed, reverse and overdub. You honestly save quite a bit of money purchasing this instead of buying multiple pedals. Overall I'm very happy with this peice of equipment. If your thinking about getting the M9 or M13 you should go ahead and get it. This is coming from someone who is very skeptical of line 6 and I can honestly say the M9 is great.

.At the begining I was a little hesistant with line 6 stuff but I thought I would give it a try. This time they got it right. This is a great pedal, of course the overdrives and distortions are not the same as analogs but they come very, very close, if you get the M9 plus a tube amp, you are all set for worship songs.

.Here is the scoop on this jewel. I own two limited editon tube fender amps and lots of botique pedals from makers like Wren & Cuff, Black Arts & Lovepedal etc and while the botique pedals are great, I compared them directly to the M9 and began to wonder why I spent all that money on those pedals. Sure they look cool and there is alot of hype surrounding them and their sound but seriously the M9 really sounds smoother and doesn't have that mushy bassy sound in the overdrive & distortion sounds. I also compared the spring reverb sounds to my limited edition Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb & it really had the same sound and character. Now if I only had a time machine to just buy this and the amp and not all those cool looking pedals that are all back in their boxes now, ha.
Don't forget you can combine overdrive's and distortion's to create new distortions sounds. Add in some delay or whatever and rock out. If you need more than 3 effects at a time then get the M13. Also the fuzz preset called "Fuzz Pi" sounds just like my Catlinbread Merkin Fuzz pedal.
Lots of features and tweaking ability, its like having a hundred pedals & you can use 3 at once.
Feels solid to me with its metal case and good quality sounds.
Great value becuase it truly has the sound.

.So I bought this pedal to use specifically for delay and reverbs. I use one or two modulation effects, and some of the filters for fun. and for the most part there really good.
I went from having a nova delay to the m9. I only switched because the band I'm in I needed more options and this was the affordable option. I thought I would lose great sounding delays that the nova could product. Well I was wrong. The pedals the m9 tries to emulate are fairly accurate to the real thing. I know there not perfect, but going into this switch a sceptic of what it could do I'm thrilled with the turn out. I mainly use the analog delay w/mod and it sounds really good. I have a few different reverbs set and they all sound great.
I think line 6 did great on the delay, reverb, filter, and even modulation, But I can't stand the distortion on it. I know I haven't played with the distortion enough, but I know many people that either play the m9 or m13 and non of them are happy with the distortion that this produces. So in my opinion If you go for this buy a good overdrive, distortion, fuzz whatever your flavour is to throw in along side it. or else from what i've experienced you'll have a very non-responsive distortion that really doesn't colour your tone the way it should. I think you get my point I find the distortions BAD and the rest GOOD.

It takes some tweaking but it really does have some great filters, modulation, delays ,and reverbs. The drive section is a little dry but not bad if you enhance it in the studio or when using with a tube amp (push the power section not the preamp).
For the price I would say that this is a great little piece of equipment and definitely better than hauling a huge pedal board around. I still use other analog drive pedals but now I can use this for everything else. Just take your time and dial in your sound, you can't just plug in and expect to hit it dead on from the start.
I love that it saves the effect where you left it. I usually use multiple settings on each pedal for different songs so I have papers with that info all over the place. Now I just use a different scene and I'm set. Nice job.
If you hate Line 6 or fear being laughed at by your "pure tone" friends then don't buy this, but if what you want is some great sounds worth a lot more than what you pay then get it.
I gave it a less than perfect rating because some of the sounds are too digital for me but not the majority.
Tons of tones with tons of tweakability.

.Overall," this is an amazing addition to any guitar arsenal. I am using it with both acoustic and electric guitars. The delays and reverbs are very nice with the acoustic. There is one reverb option called ""Particle Verb"". Adds a nice droning synth in the background that just kind of creeps into the mix. Very cool for the quieter stuff...al la Coldplay. The compressors and distortions work amazingly well together to get a creamy yet defined electric sound. The modulators provide a very interesting option. Want a Jimmy sound....No problem! The way I ultimately rate my musical toys is simply.....am I happy with it a month after I bought it. With the Line 6 M9", the answer is a definite YES!
This little box has so many different sounds locked into it. The toughest part is figuring out exactly what you are looking for and what you want to mix and match. I would have given this stompbox a perfect 10....except it is lacking in one area. It uses midi cables to attach to the computer, and you need a USB to midi adaptor to make it work using a program called SYSEX. Why can't there just be a USB connection????
Solid metal construction and built like a tank. The AC adaptor is very heavy duty.
So many high quality sounds packed into a very small package!

.I take my gear purchases very seriously, and I have high expectation for acquisitions, which are usually preceeded by extensive research, review reading, cost analysis, etc. Although I am thankful to have enough tools for any professional necessities, I have a general philosophy about having the best quality I can afford, taking care of what I have, using tools as deeply as possible, not having excessive amounts of things that are not needed or especially go unused, and getting products that allow me to continue using with versatility as I grow in my practice and occupation. Regarding the M9, I can say that I have been using one since 2010 and have integrated it solidly into concerts, studio recordings, and other myriad projects of these past years. I just acquired a second M9, for expanded uses and to be certain that I will be able to securely continue solid use. If you are considering this product, I would guess that you are familiar with how much this unit is capable of. I can attest that this box is excellent. For its small size, it carries 100 pedals worth of effects, of which can be stored in multiple settings, modified in real time with tap tempo, and with a bit of utilitarian looping. Comparing this to three boutique pedals, for example, one would pay likely twice as much or more, with 97 less options, and likely not have access to saved settings for sets, track recordings, etc, nor be able to use tap tempo which syncs to all effects in chain, and a pedal for changing effect parameters (not included). I cannot say enough good things about this pedal, but hopefully this review will help others looking for experienced reviews to help them decide if this is worthy of purchase. Also, the sound quality is excellent. the list of professional users should serve as confirmation. this box is perfect for my uses and needs.

.I used the Line 6 DL4 for about 5 years with no problem at all, although at times due to the unit having only 3 presets i would have to bend over to add modulation to a preset if i wanted it for a song, so i figured i'd give the M9 a shot sense it had more presets... well i don't want to ramble on so in short i got what i wanted and more, also the chorus efx are great, as are the other modulation efx and you can set them for tap tempo or a set rate (same goes for delays of course), your choice, never seen this for a modulation type efx before, very cool... the reverbs are very good, as are some of the overdrives/dist./fuzz mods. Only thing i didn't care for was the size of the supplied power pac (it's huge), so i order the Godlyke PA-9S-US Power-All 2000mA and the L6 jumper cable(reverse-polarity).

.All in all, a very imprisoned version of the m13. Might as well spend the extra $100 and get the m13. They're trying to fit too much here into a pedal that needs twice as many footswitches for the features. If you don't want the footprint of the m13, get the m5. It's got pretty much everything the m9 has and is not only easier to use, but no bigger than a stompbox.
