Product Features

The Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless System provides a pure signal with a clarity that rivals that of the highest-quality guitar cables. Guitars get a beautiful high-end sparkle and basses get a thunderous low-end punch, even at distances of up to 200 feet. Traditional wireless systems compromise the sound of your instrument by rolling-off crucial high- and low-end frequencies and compressing their signals. This system on the other hand, offers superior sound with full bandwidth and zero compression.

Professional Dependability
Broadcasting over the 2.4GHz band keeps the Line 6 Relay G50's signal free from many kinds of interference. Traditional wireless guitar systems are susceptible to dropouts, static, and many other kinds of interference. Broadcasting over congested UHF bands, their signals may be affected by interference generated as far away as 100 miles or more. For added security, the Relay G50 employs exclusive signal protection technology, simultaneously broadcasting encrypted data streams to multiple antennas.

Refreshing Simplicity
The Relay G50 is a low-profile wireless system that's easy to use. The lightweight transmitter remains out of the way of your performance and its LCD displays channel number and battery life. The rugged metal receiver offers bright and easy-to-read LEDs that display power, status, and battery life. Its dual 1/4" outputs make it an easy addition to your pedal board.

Attached to Your Guitar Cable?
For players attached to cables, adopting a wireless system introduces many questions: What will it feel like? Will it change my sound? The Line 6 Relay G50 sounds just like a cable, but it also sounds just like your cable. It features EQ settings that match the frequency responses of typical guitar cables. Different players use different cables, but all players can use Relay G50.

The Wireless Revolution
Relay G50 is proudly ushering in a better-sounding and more dependable era of wireless guitar systems. It will inspire you to explore new areas of your music and the stage.

The wireless guitar system comes complete with transmitter, receiver and all necessary accessories including locking cable, power supply, and batteries.

I bought this unit almost a year ago. I read my original review, and felt it was too light on information for any potential buyer.

Here is my revised review, after working with this unit for the past 9 months. I have used it at every weekly practice, since purchase.

Being in a KISS tribute requires wireless usage for the cool factor, and safety issues (platform boots).

I was initially very skeptical about the capability of a wireless. Being a former owner of a Nady RW-1 (which is a piece of garbage) I was not very jazzed about exchanging my trusty instrument cable for a tone-sucking, battery-eating, unreliable wireless.

However, times have changed

After talking to band mates and consulting online forums, the Line6 G50 was frequently mentioned. With a sigh of hesitation, I took the plunge and purchased a used (mint condition) G50 from Custom Guitars Friend.

PROS:

-I have experienced no signal thinning or loss. In fact, my tone has more presence with my wireless.

-The output knob that matches the length of instrument cord from receiver to amp is cool, and takes the guess work out of how much output should be dialed in on the wireless receiver.

-The low battery light not only flashes on your transmitter, but the receiver as well. This is especially helpful if your wireless receiver is offstage with a guitar/bass tech. The indicator gives them ample, advanced warning of future battery failure.

-The audio light is another great indicator, and streamlines troubleshooting. This light flickers on both the transmitter and receiver, enabling the user to verify that the wireless is both transmitting and receiving signal.

-The programming features are simple enough to use and alter. However, this unit does so many cool functions, that it is wise to keep the operator manual in your gig bag.

-The transmitter power on/off button doesnt make my rig pop. Very nice.

-The transmitter mute button is great and works well in quick change situations.

-You can program text to appear on the screen of the transmitter. Kind of a cool feature to prevent transmitters from getting mixed up with band members.

-The power save feature is great for situations when youre playing in small areas, and dont need as much reach. I use this all the time to maximize battery life, when at practice.

-The battery life on this unit is spectacular. I can easily do three, 3-hour practices, before I need to change batteries.

-I like that they use AA batteries for this unit.

-The metal transmitter & receiver cases are pretty rugged, but I try to not abuse my wireless.

-The receiver antennas are short, robust, and do not be extended to function. They usually stay tucked down on my pedal board.

-Swapping out batteries in the transmitter is a breeze.

-Line 6 furnished this unit with 12 different channels, which can be easily changed with a knob on the receiver and a few functions on the transmitter. This feature enables many members in a band to use the G50.

-In full power mode, I can get pretty far from my amp. I havent tested its limit, but Ive messed with it in long distances, equal to large stages. I have had no problems.

CONS:

-The transmitter connection is probably the weakest point of this unit. I havent had any problems, but I always keep my transmitter in its own little box when not in use.

-The channel knob on my receiver was changed to a different channel by accident. It took me 5 minutes to troubleshoot my signal loss. Fortunately, this occurred at practice.

-Line 6 furnishes this unit with a straight jack transmitter cord. I purchased a Shure angled jack cord to prevent any accidental guitar jack or wireless transmitter cord damage. The line 6 cord is now a spare.

-Id highly recommend getting a spare transmitter cord. From what Ive read, its the weakest point on this unit.

-As robust as this wireless looks, its still delicate electronic gear. If you plan to have it on the floor, be smart and have it protected on a pedal board. Id imagine the antennas could be snapped if stepped on.

Im very happy with this wireless, and Im glad that affordable technology has finally caught up to the trusty instrument cable. If you want to explore the freedom of going wireless, Id urge you to try the Line6 G Series.

.I had this unit and it stopped working after 9 months of use. I am extremely careful with my unit never, dropped or abused. Called Line 6, they were extremely rude and would not fix a thing even though I had registered it and it was suppose to have a 1 year warranty. is only as good as your word and theirs is no good. They said they could sell me another. I wouldn't buy anything from them ever!!!! I have a lot of equiptment and have never been treated like they treated me.

.Buying a wireless unit is not fun. It is great to have and maximizes your performance, however it is like buying a furnace for your house. It's nice to be warm, but it's not as sexy as buying a new amp or guitar.

So, when I found this I held my nose and jumped in. I am very happy that I made this purchase at this price point.

The frequency selections are versatile enough that I have not had any interference problems. It has performed well at both clubs and festivals where there are several bands playing at once and other hazards.

The best part about it for me is that the receiver resembles the size of a pedal. It lives on my pedal board. Which is great cause I use different amps for different venues and don't have to be tied to a rack mount.

Additionally, the two outs are handy. I use the guitar line into my chain as implied and I send the tuner line to a TC helicon vocal harmonizer and other auxiliary effects.

Range is great.

It is digital. I cannot tell a difference between it and a cable.

I use it to practice when my rig is set up in my studio and battery life is reasonable in IMO.

If you have the dough at this price point, go with this product.

Two negatives. Well, more like irritants.

1) I had to replace the cable once after two years of consistent wear and tear. Which I am ok with.

You will not find a replacement via line 6.
Shure makes a replacement so I ordered two.

SHURE CAN PROVIDE BOTH STRAIGHT AND ANGLED.

2) The lettering on the transmitter wore off on mine fairly quickly. This of course won't affect the function. As I said I don't spend time thinking about my wireless, so going through the menus with out the function buttons being labeled can be tedious.

That is on me because I didn't take the time to completely familiarize myself with all the ins and outs. Once I got it zeroed in, I plugged it into my board and just cared about the on and off switch.

. I would buy this again. I'm happy with what I have. I bought a Shure angled jack transmitter cord, so now I have spare. I would recommend having a spare, since it seems like the only weak point on this unit.
Im now in a band that requires wireless usage. Ive owned an old Nady RW-1 for years, but rarely used it. The battery died on me many times at gigs, and my tone sounded beyond thin. I really hate wireless, because of the above issues. After reading countless reviews, and talking to my band mates, I kept hearing about the G50. I was glad I listened. This piece is easy to set up, and the directions are simple. I havent really tested distance, but any normal size stage would be well within the range of this wireless. The feature that tells you how much battery life you have is very cool. No more guessing or dying batteries in between songs.
This unit is made of metal. A nice touch. Nothing appears cheap, except for the instrument cable. The buttons feel secure, and respond, easily. It's nice to have a unit that doesn't pop the speakers when the mute is turned on/off.
I may not use it for every gig I do, but it's nice to have a reliable, non-tone sucking option.

.If you buy this item it could very well be the last wireless system you buy. BUT....You absolutley need to replace the transmitter cable that comes with it, it's complete junk, im dead serious use it only as a spare in emergency situations. I recommend the Shure WA-304 instrument cable, its longer, more durable, and has the right-angle jack head to avoid stress on inside components.

ROCK ON!!
No complaints with the features. I like the LED displays, and the 12 channel option.
No complaints with the quality either. I appreciate the rugged construction of the receiver, and transmitter.
I thought it was expensive but I can live with it.
Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System
.Bottom line...buy this product! Line 6 always makes great equipment and this is no exception!
I have had wireless guitar systems in the past and they were....ok at best. The Line 6 G50 just blew me away! It is amazing how much of a range this thing has! I have had it for about two weeks and played my first show with it the other day. I had no problems what so ever! Perfect for any guitar player of any style!
Well worth the money! It may be a little expensive but is worth every penny!
Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System
.All of my gear is treated with respect and handled with care. This unit performed well for about 10 months and failed during a performance. Not a good deal at any price. Line 6 offers no assistance with their customer-No-service, unless you want to purchase something a replacement. I removed the batteries and deposited it into a New Orleans dumpster. If hearing your sound needs to be dependable; I suggest purchasing a good cord or a different wireless product. Custom Guitar's Friend is still the best!
Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System
.Very happy so far. A great compact well built unit. Excellent sound and no noise. Digital is great for some applications and this is one of them! It is perfect for my set up and I highly recommend it. We play small clubs and it was nice to dump the cable again. My old unit bit the dust after many rough years and Ive been using cables the past year. Should have bought this sooner!!
Love that this goes right on my pedal board and connects to my DC brick. It has a tuner/aux output so you can go direct to the tuner. Take it out of the box, select a channel and off you go. The "cable length" selector does give you the ability to dial in that same "sound" you had with a cable. I set mine to 25 ft. Used it at my first gig tonight and it performed beautifully!
Nice metal units and seems to be built tough.

.Finally a wireless that is transparent and works like it should. I A/B w/ mogami and george L and a barely audible difference, if any at all. Sure it costs a few more ducets, but you'll be happy you spent the coin. I tried MANY systems before and this is hands down the best. Super ez to use. Truthfully, I'm not a line 6 fan and was somewhat hesitant to try it, but Im glad I got this unit and you will be too.
Line 6 Relay G50 Digital Wireless Guitar System
.I bought the G50, plugged everything in, and it made no sound. I called up Custom Guitar's Friend and they suggested that I send it back for a new one because the output jack was probably dead. I got a new one and had the exact same problem. I called Line 6 and spent 2.5 hours on hold just to find out that, again, the output jack was dead. This time, they suggested I send it to them and they would fix it. 6 weeks later I received my "fixed" G50. I got it to make sound only once before the jack crapped out AGAIN. I so wanted to love this product..... Oh well, off to Sennheiser or Shure.
