I bought the OD 1-X to replace a 1980 MIJ Super Overdrive that I thought was emitting a low level hum (which turned out to be a bad Boss power adaptor)Guitar Player magazine was correct, the OD 1-X may look similar, and both are called overdrive, but they are different beasts. The OD 1-X is clearer, with less midrange, better EQ control and higher output, but slightly less gain and sustain, which can be compensated for by turning up the gain.
I use an overdrive as my crunch and lead sound, as opposed to using it to goose an already overdriven amp. The OD 1-X would work really well for those seeking a boost.
Overall I am happy with the OD 1-X, who knows maybe both will end up on my pedal board.
It is nice to have a bass control, because my SD1 seems to lose bass response compared to when it is turned off.

.I didn't find the sound I was looking for with this. Anything past 12 o'clock and it goes into garbage tone. Disappointed and wasted money. Should have just got the super overdrive.

.I have them all from Fulltone to MXR. This pedal is all class from looks to quality of parts and sound. Don't confuse this with a distortion pedal, it's an overdrive. It's very nature sounding and brings out the quality of your amp and guitar. The better your rig the better this sounds. I use an Orange amp, a Fender twin and a Blackstar. I also use Presonus studio with Allen & Heath. I play PRS custom 24s and a Musicman JP15. This pedal is as good as it gets. It's virtually silent when you engage it, zero line sound. It work perfectly with all my pedals. I never turn things up all the way, you shouldn't have to. If you need to blast the level and the gain then your not looking for an overdrive pedal your looking for a distortion pedal. This is the greatest OD pedal I've ever had and I've been playing almost 42 years. Best OD I've ever owned!! Hope you all find the sound your looking for!!

.I have never experienced an overdrive FX that could do so much and sound like a match-made-in-heaven with a variety of guitare and amps. I have tried this with a Strat, ES-335, flying V metal guitar through Fender princeton reverb, small solid state marshall and even through a PA. They all sounded FANTASTIC !
The market for OD pedals has exploded even more in these last 5 years. The reason for this is simply besace of the explosion of cheap guitare and amp gears. All thèse million of OD pedals really do is tweak the EQ differently, and add more options. This one has not only done this, but for whatever reason it sounds just great throough this variety of amps and guitare.
What I like the most about it is that I no longer have to change the settings for different style / songs. All I do is switch pickups, pick atatcked, volume control on the guitare and I get this wide range fo sweet OD to fit all my styles.

.Yes, I could have bought the standard version Overdrive from Boss, But compared to the OD-X I thought it sounded "thinner" in sound, My advice? Just buy this pedal if you're a player, I was not disappointed at all once I got past the new list price, Custom Guitar's friend was the lowest price on the web, I checked them all too, Thumbs up on the Pedal! My Stevie Ray Licks never sounded so good!!!!

.I'm a little disappointed, when I viewed the video this pedal I thought would be the one I was looking for. However, I'll need another OD pedal as a mixer. The sound is good if driven through your amp at a high gain, but if you play through a studio device such as a Jam Hub, then it just won't perform as promised in the Boss video's.
