Product Features

Powered by Multi-Dimensional Processing technology (MDP), the TE-2 Tera Echo produces a dynamic new stereo ambience effect that goes far beyond traditional delay and reverb.

Multi-Dimensional Processing for Superior Tone
Roland's innovative Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) analyzes audio signals in many dimensions and applies ideal effects to each. By giving different dynamic changes relative to the input signal in real time, MDP can create bold, all-new sounds with a previously unattainable range of expression.

TE-2: Inspirational Echo
Thanks to MDP, the TE-2 delivers an amazing new ambience effect that satisfies and inspires. Complex internal processing produces an incredibly deep and spacious sound, dramatically enhancing the straight guitar tone without overwhelming it. Through the TE-2's simple, familiar stompbox controls and incredible sensitivity to your playing dynamics, an extremely wide range of sounds can be achieved. And with the expressive Freeze function, you can hold the current effect sound to create rich soundscapes for lead playing and sonic exploration.

This pedal is very good at what it does! I've found that it's best uses are with volume swells, and as a background effect.
My only complaints(and the reasons I only give it 4 stars) are a lack of an expression pedal/tap tempo input, and the freeze function can sometimes be too quiet.
The latter problem could be solved with a stacked volume knob to give the main effect and the frozen sound independent levels.
Some interesting/glitchy effects can be achived by adjsting the Spread Time mid use. This is where an expression pedal input would be useful.

This pedal is what it says, an echo that adapts and conforms to your style and intensity of your playing. I love all of the functions of this pedal, and the freeze function was well worth the money, but if gives off more of a reverb/echo sound instead of a delay. So if you're after a crisp delay, look elsewhere. But if you want a spacious pedal that will open a new world of possibilities, then the boss Tera echo is the way to go.

.So...I really like this pedal...very unusual processing and the echo is a one of a kind ambient sound with great results and nice impact on your sound. Here is the problem, the TE-2 sounded very good when I first tested it for a few days. So, I installed on my board, and played 3 gigs with it. Each time, I heard lots of background hiss from my normally very quiet FX chain. Even the other band members asked "what is that noise?"...Finally, went through my chain to see what's up...turns out when the pedal is in the signal path but not engaged there is 5-10dB of Hiss from the Tera-Echo pedal. Same issue when engaged. Much too loud for me so I returned it to the store and the new one was exactly the same. I have a few Boss pedals (Blues Driver, CE-5) as well as the new Adaptive Distortion (DA-2) and they are dead quiet. So I removed it from my board and am thinking about what to replace it with....Too bad---really liked it

.The video demos I saw of this on YouTube made it seem like it was The Edge-in-a-box. Not so much. The best use I found for it was by using the volume control on my guitar. I got some real lush sounds by cranking up the effect level and using a volume swell after strumming chords.
The "freeze" mode is also somewhat useful and fun. It should cost 1/2 as much.

.I use a couple of delay effects pedals. This one is the over the top sound for that extra depth. It's just fun, really.
Boss TE-2 Tera Echo Guitar Effects Pedal
.This is a great echo pedal, and the price was right. I bought a tape emulating pedal first, but it was too noisy. I've been using Boss/Roland products since the 1970's. I own the first generation distortion pedal they put out in 1977. So after I returned the other pedal, I decided to go with a known product.
I don't regret it.
Boss TE-2 Tera Echo Guitar Effects Pedal
.I checked out the various videos and reviews on this pedal before I bought it, and it seemed to be the "something different" I was looking for; not just a delay and not just reverb. It's a mix of both with some nice ambient effect to it. The one thing I didn't notice so much in the videos was the laser-like kind of phaser sound it has, especially as you crank the effect up into your mix. It can be pretty cool and is really sensitive to pick attack and volume level. It would be nice, however, if there were a toggle switch or knob to control the amount of that particular aspect of the sound. I like having a cavernous echo and it's nice to have a little modulation, but at this price I think they should be able to make the modulation optional.
I will keep it and use it because it is different than any other pedal I own, but it won't get used in as many applications as it could be. You may want to test drive this one before you buy it.
