The Fishman V-200 is a bridge-mounted, piezo-ceramic violin pickup. The V-200 senses string vibrations via a single piezo element, fastened to the violin's wing slot with a patented floating mount. The pickup's low mass minimizes any damping or muting that could affect the violin's acoustic tone. The Fishman V-200 pickup provides natural, acoustic sound for any playing style.
The Fishman V-200 also has the added benefits of the Carpenter 1/4" Output Jack. This professional-quality 1/4" pickup jack, molded into an attractive housing, attaches to the lower bout with chin rest hardware. It makes a perfect mounting point for adding a microphone and does not affect the violin's acoustic tone. It also makes it easy to use a cable with a right angle plug. I purchased one of these. I have 8 violins. Several of which are old school acoustic. Two of which date 80 to 100 years old. One is used for bluegrass music and the other for playing jazz and blues. I purchased one of these fishman pickups and had very poor sound reproduction. Very gravely and narrow sounding that eq and levels or gain would not correct weather used through a preamp or not. The L.R. Baggs pick up was the way to go and bought 2, one for each instrument. I am very involved with both worlds of acoustc and electric since electric I play a Zeta and a few others. I dont want to knock fishman in any way because I have done rather well with some products such as there Fishman solo amp. If you are serious about your music and profession and gig hard in a wide array of venues as I do, this pick up is not the deal.Fishman V-200 Classic Series Professional Violin Pickup
.I purchased the Fishman v-200 "Professional" violin pickup in hopes that I can use my accoustic violin on gigs that demand a sweeter sound. After installing it and trying many different adjustments found it to have a crude sound. The worst part of this pick up it the percussive sound it makes every time you change bow strokes.I purchased this to create a sweeter, Grappelli like sound than I can get out of my Yamaha silent electric but found the Yamaha has a much better sound than my $10,000 acoustic violin with the Fishman pickup.Don't waste your money unless you plan on playing hard rock in gin mills and don't care about producing a clean violin sound.

.I've been a violinist for 58 years. Of those 58 years, I have played professionally for 40 years.
Live on Stage, and Recording Studios in Country Music. I hold a performance certificate as a concert violinist and I have been a luthier for a little over 30 years as well. I swear by the professional V-200 transducers. I have found that if they are not installed into the bridge properly, or if they are not run through the suggested pre-amp, (and possible graphic equalizer), that those persons ignoring those two important facts always are disappointed with their results. Install the transducer into the bass side of the violin bridge and run through a pre-amp. (Fishman makes a pre-amp specifically designed for this purpose). ... Personally, I simply run mine through a volume pedal and a 10 band graphic "active" equalizer (volume control on it). Add a little reverb and you can have the sweetest sound you could ever want.

.I use this pickup for outdoor wedding gigs and receptions, mostly. I don't play enough gigs that need amplification to want to do any mods to my violin, or to get a violin that's strictly for amp gigs. Sure, I can't do all the fine things that I do when I'm playing classical music. But at these kinds of occasions, hardly anybody in the audience knows what's going on anyway; it's mostly background music. Worth the investment, if you don't demand hi-fi.

.I have used a Fishman V-100 for years, and while it's not an acoustic tone, it's a solid pickup, and has worked consistently. I opted for the V-200, and am now using one fiddle as my exclusive electric instrument. I'm really looking forward to not having to remove the pickup from my main instrument to get a great acoustic tone. (It does dampen the acoustic tone some as it is placed in the wing of the bridge, but not too badly.)

.I recently purchased my FIshman V-200 violin pickup and I was very impressed with it. It gives me a very natural tone and, by tweaking the bass and treble controls on my amp, I can get a nice rich overall sound. After purchasing my violin, I knew that I wanted it amplified so I could use it with my effects board. It has opened a lot of possibilities so that I can explore different sounds. If you are hesitant in purchasing one of these, don't be. I think you will find that it is well made and durable and, for the price, a good addition to your musical arsenal. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to electrify their violin.

.I have been playing fiddle professionally in a band for ten years now, and at concerts I have always just used a mic for my fiddle, which did not sound so good. I could never sing & play at the same time. So when I bought this pickup & tried it out, I was amazed at how well it sounded! And now I can sing & play! Some of the reivews say it is not so good, but I disagree! Highly reccomend this pickup.

.Bought one 30 years ago which worked well. Has 1/8 inch socket, wanted 1/4" socket, so bought new V-200. My new carbon fiber Mezzo-Forte violin has good German bridge. The Fishman worked well for a minute, then it would pick up 'buzz'. I'd re-position pickup, and it would work ok for a minute, then apparently work loose (I guess) and 'buzz' again. Tried to keep it tight. Toothpick wedged under pickup, better, but would start to buzz again in couple minutes. Finally, when sounding good, I glued it in place. Same buzz would visit again!...Going to ask my luthier to install a Baggs bridge-imbedded piezo pickup.
