Jesus Christ. Another one. Look at this beauty. Behold the coolness.Ā
This old guitar was made in East Germany in about 1962 (old pickup models) for "Meinel & Herold" or Migma. These companies were a music instruments trading companies which actually predated the communist regime, they already existed in the 1930s.
This is a super rare specimen with a white tolex cover in good condition and rare, awesome playability (super low string action possible).
The quality of these guitars rivals their West German counterparts (Germans are Germans after all...) and deliver very interesting sound alternatives to the mainstream. Grab this beauty while you still get them for moderate prices.
Condition:
The guitar is in a beautiful condition for its age, with some dings and dongs. Noticable is that the tolex starts to crack at the edges (see pics) but sits tight on the body still. The frets show some wear, but are ok, the neck has slight underbow. Everything on the guitar is original except the tuners and the poti knobs.
Electrics:
The electrics work fine, delivering a very rich and warm, yet clear tone from the pick ups. They sound very loud, but clear and brilliant, ideal for twang and surf sounds, but also funk and everything else that needs twang. The controls take some time to get used to, but once you figured them out, a multitude of interesting sounds is at hand.
Sound and Playability:
The guitar plays easily with a very low string action. The pickups (Simetos) are awesome.
Frets, Repairs, Service:
Guitar restored completely, cleaned, fretboard oiled, tuners oiled, frets polished, new 10 gauge strings attached, set up to be played immediately. The guitar comes detuned for shipping.
