I have several '57 and '62 RI Stratocasters which have these pickups from the factory. I have used these pickups to upgrade some of the less expensive Fender Stratocasters, such as the pre-2005 Highway One models, and this has made them very comparable to the more expensive Strats. I have also used them when I have assembled reproduction Stratocasters, like the closest to a '63 version that I put together with all Fender parts, that most of my friends ask to play when we get together. There are sets of made to fit the Stratocaster pickups that can be bought for less money than this set, but, if you are putting them in a Fender guitar, it is best to keep it with all Fender parts. Not everyone appreciates Seymour Duncan or other available brands, EMG. also, comes to mind, as an upgrade, if the guitar might be sold in the future. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with the other manufacturers, especially Di Marzio and Seymour Duncan. It depends on what type of music that is to be played on the guitar. If the early to late '60's music is on the venue, consider a less expensive Fender Stratocaster, as long as the body is alder and the neck is either all maple or maple with a rosewood fretboard, nitro-cellular paint optional, and upgrade it with this particular set of Fender Pickups with three 250k CTS potentiometers and a "vintage" type of capacitor (not necessarily in Fender packaging) and save some money on the "period" Strat. Like my guitar tech has said to me, "the amp does not know what the guitar looks like, but responds to the signal that it receives." Fender does make a number of different sets of Stratocaster pickups, but this set is the closest to those from this particular era. The middle pickup is not reverse wound, so that should be taken into consideration. I have found that the '62 aluminum shield that goes under the 11 hole pickguard can help eliminate the "hum" after it is properly grounded. They do not sound like the '54 set, nor do they sound like the '69 set that Fender also has on the market. I would also recommend using the electrical solder that is sold for the purpose of soldering electrical curcuits. Of course, to consider using any set of upgrade pickups depends on whether you can solder, or that you know someone who is reasonable about doing the operation. .Perfect! Not to often you find a perfect sound in a guitar, for the price you get a truly vintage sounding set of pickups. To get the best sound I recommend using 250K Volume and tone potentiometers with a .1uf capacitor on the tone. With that setup and a good set of flatwound strings, that sound is there! Can't beat it! To sum it up i'd say you just can not beat these! .A good basic early rosewood Strat repro pickup. Good enough reproduction for most "nerds" who actually play their guitars, but nowhere near "correct" enough for a nutball "vintage nerd." But what matters to those of us in the real world is that they sound good and they look good. There are better, less mass-produced, options out there, but these are good pickups that I would not hesitate to use if they came my way, or that I would buy outright if I got a good deal. A used set of these is well worth $100 IMO, but a new set is not worth $150. The Duncans sound a little better, and cost a little less, so apply your logic and decide what to do. If you really want these because they are Fender brand, I say wait to get them on sale, or get them used.
P.S. I have two sets of these, so I am not just talking out of my butt. I got both of mine in guitars, so I didn't buy them. But I have been happy with the two sets for 11 and 12 years, respectively. They are not going anywhere.
Pretty true reproduction of the classic early rosewood Strat pickups. They are a direct competitor/equivalent to the Seymour Duncan SSL-1's. A truer reproduction would be preferable to me (exact same materials as the old ones, proper material and castings for the covers, hand winding, etc.). But that said, these are on par with any equivalent product in this price range in terms of features. The Duncans are no better in that respect.
Pretty decently made pickups. No complaints here. Nothing fancy, and nothing cheesy. A little more wax on the bobbins would be nice. The coil leads can come up from the bobbin because the wax that holds them down is so thin. Very easy to end up with a dead pickup if that happens and then you break the winding.
On the used market, a good value. New, well, I kid of think everything is overpriced, so maybe I am the wrong person to ask. I'll put it this way.; they are good enough that I wouldn't pay to replace them if they came in a guitar. But if I was starting from scratch, I'd probably look for a pickup that was a better bang for the buck. At any rate, they are again pretty much on par with the Duncans. Both are around the same price for a set. The Duncans are about $7 cheaper, and IMO sound slightly better, so if I was buying new, I'd go with the Duncans.

.A player of 42 years, I have had an opportunity to play great vintage instruments and amps before they were "vintage".
I purchased a new stratocaster in 1975. I remember the tone as being quite bright, (maybe a little too bright). The 57/62's remind me of that tone but with a splash of warmth that keeps the pickup from having that "ice pick in the ear" feel. Make no mistake; this is a bright pickup. Fender Texas Specials, or Duncan SSL1's have a bit more mid-range response by comparison. I once played a 1965 Strat owned by a friend back in the day. I remember it as being quite chimey as well, so I am pretty sure the 57/62's are a good representation of a vintage pickup. Strat pickups back in the day (70's) were not a precision affair. They varied from point to point. Some sounded great, others, not so great. Today the quality is quite consistent.
I have tried numerous pickups for Stratocasters: Duncan, Fender, Dimarzio, etc. I like the 57/62's quite a bit. I can't say it is the best I have ever heard, I haven't found that pickup yet, but it is a pretty color I can add to my palette of sound.

.For the most part I am fairly pleased with these pickups! They look cool on my strat being that they are aged yellow. They sound great and the price isn't too bad. Just remember the middle isn't reverse wound, and the magentic pole pieces can really pull on your strings and alter your intonation if they are set too high.
Great sounding pickups! I can get much glassier and powerful tones than my stock strat pickups provided! Plus I can get pinch harmonics like you cant believe. Only reason i didn't give it full stars is because the middle pickup isn't reverse wound so you cant escape that hum in the 2nd and 4th positions. Plus the pole pieces have to be set kind of low so you dont get the magnetic pull on your strings. Granted all these things you would expect from a strat made in the 57/62 time frame. So if you are a strat purest then this shouldn't be to much of a problem. I will be swapping out the middle pickup for a tex mex reverse wound middle more than likely.
Great build quality and sound is consistent. The wire's are even covered with a cloth wrap to help with interference.
The price seems a little high considering you get a full set of 3 tex mex pickups separately. Plus the tex mex are hotter pickups. But it certainly beats paying for the othermore expensive pickups.

.I installed these in my 2004 Japanese Blue Floral Strat. The guitar was great besides having really shabby pickups. I got a set of these 57/62 Fender Pickups and that Strat sounds as good as my 3 other Strats, 1980 Sienna Burst, 2004 54 RI 50th Anniversary with the 54 Custom Shop Pickups and a 2009 Custom Shop Jeff Beck Strat. It sits with some pretty good company and seriously sounds just as good as any of my other Strats.

Ok, so I've been playing for a long time. I'd definitely consider myself a Strat guy. I've owned quite a few over the years. A few MIM's, a vintage 70's Strat, and 3 American RI '57's (2 candy apple red and a surf green). The '57's are my pride and joy. They are the holy grail of guitars and have given me far more pleasure than any woman. I got my first one in the late '90's. At the time, I hadn't discovered a love for true vintage tone. I didn't dislike the 57/62 stock pups. But, I also didn't know how to play without a lot of gain. So, they weren't for me. I dropped in some EMG SA's (with active mid boost), and away I went. I got the 2nd '57 a couple of years later and same thing. The EMG's have been in there ever since (some 16/17 years later). Recently, I decided that I was gonna get a 3rd '57. I absolutely love the EMG's. They are incredibly versatile, and sound rich and full. I like to describe them as "violin-like". However, I knew I wanted keep this '57 more vintage. My memory of the 57/62 pups was that they were good, but not very dynamic. So, my thinking was that I would replace them with some Fat 50's. Or maybe some Duncan's (Antiquity Surf or SSL-1). But, when I got this beautiful Strat home, I discovered that these pups are far more dynamic, and much better overdriven, than I remembered. Using the bridge pup, thru an EP Booster, TS-9, OCD, lil chorus and delay, I got a beautiful brown sound doing "Little Guitars". I was kind of wow'd by that. That was a very pleasant surprise. But, my favorite is the middle pickup. It is killer for that slightly dirty rhythm tone. Pure vintage and so incredibly warm.There are a couple of pretty big cons for me. The neck pickup absolutely nails SRV. It's a very warm biting kind of tone. I know some would be thrilled with that. But, I like the neck pup to be more bell-like and glassy (Gilmour). So, I'm going to go ahead with a Fat 50's in the neck. The other is that I'm so used to the mid boost with the EMG's, the bridge just isn't hot enough for me. This is a working guitar for me. I need a little more versatility. So, I'll either gonna go with a SD SSL-5, or I'll put in a TBX to get some chunkier rhythms and leads out of this bridge. I know that will make my Strat a hot rod and go against my vintage ideal. But this middle pup isn't going anywhere and the a Fat 50's pup sounds very vintage with the volume rolled back.
Despite those "cons", and the fact that I'm replacing 1or 2 of these pups, I stand by the 5 star rating. These 57/62 pups are awesome at what they were designed to do. And that is be warm and vintage and just sound absolutely magical! If that's what you're after, do not hesitate to buy these.
