Product Features

The 1965 Stratocaster saw the return to a thick C-shaped maple neck, this time with a round-laminated dark rosewood fingerboard and larger pearl dot inlays. It was also the first year for enamel-covered pickup wire. That's what players will find on the Fender American Vintage '65 Stratocaster Electric Guitar, along with other authentic features including a three-ply white pickguard with 11 holes, lightweight alder body, aged plastic knobs and vintage-accurate pickups, bridge saddles, tuner spacing and more. Available in classic Three-color Sunburst finish.

The American Vintage Series has long presented some of Fender's best selling guitars (their early-'80s introduction, in fact, was one of the first signs that Fender was "back" as the CBS era ended). Today, Fender has boldly cleared the slate to make way for a fresh American Vintage series with new features, new specs and the most meticulous level of vintage accuracy yet. Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, they've completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept-restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more-based on actual vintage guitars. Includes case.

Okay, I've only played guitar for two years, but I've studies piano for a few decades, and I'm confident I know what I like a guitar in my hands to sound like, to feel like, and do. And this guitar is it. I've played Fender Custom Shop guitars, Gibson custom shop guitars and high-end ESPs (don't own them all!) and this 65 reissue is, without exaggeration, as finely built and sounding an instrument as any of them. It really feels and sounds as if you've got the best made strat in your hands (bar maybe masterbuilts which I've never even been around). The 65 pick ups are superb. They're a little higher output than CS69s, and they can really snarl if you're in the mood, but they've got what I think any great strat should have, which is both the glassiness and the quack. (Not quite as bright as 57/62s which I love also.) It's just a beautiful, harmonically-rich dead-on strat sound. I've read from experienced players that Fender found some magic in these pick ups and "did 'em right" by vintage standards. I really don't care if they're vintage correct or just great -- they're just beautiful and inspiring and I'd never swap them for boutiques or what not. The production is flawless and the thing just feels so right. Just think strat, strat, strat and all your strat heroes (it does a great Robert Quine by the way). It's got a about it that inspires you to play. If you can deal with the 7.25 neck (and you should!) you'll find easy bends and super easy fret reach up top. Gosh it's just a wonderful instrument. The only thing I can say about mine is that the fretwire seems a little tall after the 18th fret or so. That can be dealt with easily but making a great guitar can't, so for me it's not an issue. Please be aware that it does have a 5-way toggle which is not 65 correct. But the neck is 65 correct, it practically moves itself through your hands. Just a fantastic guitar. I love it and if it were stolen I would get another. 20% off made it all the more delicious but I don't care, my search for "my" strat has ended with a happy ending!
