Product Features

The Fender American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster Electric Guitar takes you back to the middle of that musically momentous decade, when the reverb-drenched surf had largely receded and the Jazzmaster began its steady decade-long ascent toward alternative indispensability for subversive new generations of iconoclastic guitarists. It had also acquired some elegant new design features by 1965, such as a bound round-laminated rosewood fingerboard with larger pearl dot inlays, and distinctive white "witch hat" control knobs.

The American Vintage Series has long presented some of Fender's best selling guitars (their early-'80s introduction, in fact, was one of the first signs that Fender was "back" as the CBS era ended). Today, Fender has boldly cleared the slate to make way for a fresh American Vintage series with new features, new specs and the most meticulous level of vintage accuracy yet. Rather than just replacing the previous models with different ones, they've completely and comprehensively re-imagined the entire vintage-reissue concept-restoring original tooling dies, voicing new pickups, reformulating vintage colors and more-based on actual vintage guitars. Includes case.

This is a great fender guitar, It has all the quality you would expect from an american fender. The one weak point of this guitar, or any jazzmaster, is the bridge. Many jazzmasters today have a tun o matic style bridge, but the traditional jazzmaster bridge is a pain in the butt. I can't list in detail every issue i have with it but it pretty much falls apart as you play it. I had to scan my floor for the springs and screws that hold the saddles on. It has been recomded to me to replace he stock saddles with mustang saddles. Love my jazzmaster 99.9% just need to get rid of the poopoo saddles. Don't let my opinion of the bridge/saddles discourage you from buying a '65 jazzmaster RI, just buy some mustang saddles to go with.

.This ia a beautiful guitar, but it is not for everyone. It is perfect for every kind of nuanced clean sound, from Jazz to Country to instrumental guitar like Surf. It is also great for Blues and overdriven sounds. But do not try full distorted Rock or Metal with this. This guitar is not made for heavy distortion. Yes, the bridge is vintage accurate, so it is trouble. I had my guitar tech tweak it, and no more problems. With that, I highly recommend this beauty. Thank you, Fender, for making this one.

.I was using the guitar for light studio time and playing at home out of a blues jr. The pickups have been my main issue with this guitar. I own a vintage Jazzmaster from the 70's as well as the 62 AVRI and both of those guitars sound significantly better in my opinion.

This was not a set-up fix, the pickups are missing the P-90ish Fender punch that older models had/have. I read several reviews of individuals praising these pickups when they first came out a few years ago but I think our ears were looking for much different things...

The overall volume of the pickups was very thin as I kept finding myself trying to turn up the volume switch but quickly noticing that they were at full capacity. Having two other Jazzmasters, I was able to test them side by side to make these observations.

There is also very minimal resonance as the pickups will not draw out the sound of a cord after strumming but rather go quiet very quickly. Personally, I have always enjoyed a Jazzy with good sustain. So these sound factors made me strike out with this one.

The neck was thick compared to the 62 and 70s vintage which I did expect as this is a 65 reissue but something about the shape made it difficult for me to play...

Also the case is a cheaper quality version of the design of the 62 case. It looks similar to the eye but lower craftsmanship such the leather pull tab on the storage area really drove me up the wall. It is a very thin leather where my button began tearing off the leather tab within 2 weeks.

The 62 case and overly padded current case that you can purchase for 150 both have a much thicker leather material on the tab which is important to me as I utilize this space. Also, the locks on the case are no longer Cheney which all of the vintage cases and my 62 AVRI case have. I know Cheney closed its doors a few years ago but just a side note from a "American Vintage" perspective.

Overall I would go vintage since you are pretty close at 2,300.

.I was pleased with my purchase, but I was surprised how dirty the guitar was when I got it and the poor setup it had. I'm not sure if fender set it up or if it was set up later by musicians friend, but it was disappointing. I definitely recommend a mastery bridge and pick up upgrade. I'm using antiquities now and it pleases me.

.It's a high quality guitar. I've owned several other jazzmasters and this one is just miles apart in terms of quality and tone. Fit and finish are perfect. Pickups sound great no issues. The bridge saddle rattle but heavier string help a lot.
