I also have the previous model Super Champ XD. The downfall of that amp is the 10 inch speaker. After adding JJ tubes and rebiasing it and running the amp thru a 12 inch speaker the amp comes to life and is much louder, as loud or louder than a Blues Jr. with more bells and whislte for less money. This new version X2 head is fabulous. The amp models are really good. Those 16 amp models are not eaactly the same as on the XD. For example there is no acoustic amp sound. However, you can download the Fender Fuse software for free then plug the amp into your computer and select other amp models and modify the various parameters of the amp models and the effects too and then store them. I'm running my X2 head thru an Eminence 12 inch speaker, the same one that came stock in my Blues Jr. and my Hot Rod Deluxe and it really sounds good. Can't wait to get in there and check the bias to see if I can open it up some more. I've been playing guitar for over 45 years and have had many of the great amps. If you've been wanting a 65 Fender Deluxe Reverb Re-issue but can't afford it then this can be just the ticket for you. It's got a superb Deluxe Reverb sound, a couple of Princeton Sounds, Champ, Twin, Bassman, British, Jazz and heavy metal models I recommend to anyone who is gonna just have one amp to get this one as it can do so many things. If you are into recording there is a line out making it easy and you can also use this to run into a PA system if you need more volume without having to mic the amp. With the X2 combo the speaker stays on so you don't need to drag around a big stack. Fender should have included the optinoal footswitch in my opinion. My son also has the earlier model XD and he built a slightly taller cabinet and installed a 12 inch speaker, something Fender should do, and his amp rocks. I would like to mention that Fender's customer service is really good. I bought a Deluxe Player's Strat with gold hardware last year and one of the "original" style tuners would not hold the string in place, some sort of defect. With just a phone call I had the part at my door, free of charge, in about 4 days. With this new amp head I had a question and called their support in Arizona and got my answer immediatley. This new X2 series is made in Mexico whereas the previous model was made in China. So in conclusion, I highly recommend this to those looking for their first tube amp as well as us oldtimers. You won't be disappointed.

Lots of great amp models and effects and simple to use. Perfect choice for someone who will have just one amp or a veteran who may not want to lug around a heavy amp. I own several tube and solid state amps including the Super Champ XD, Fender Frontman, Bass Frontman, Blues Jr., Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall MA 100H, Line 6, and many more.
Initial quality is very good. Most Fender products hold up really well if you take care of them.

.After playing solid state amps and rack-effects for two decades, I got a little Fender Vibro Champ XD from a pawnshop and loved the tube tones so much I decided to get a grown-up tube amp. There aren't too many good available tube amps sitting around in my corner of Montana, but I tried all I could in my price range including a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Mustang III (tho not a tube amp), and Marshall 5 Series. None really suited my needs as a weekend warrior and occasional small gig player. The Deluxe and 5 Series have to be cranked to ear-splitting volumes to get good tones out of them and I would have needed various stomp boxes, and the Mustang didn't have those authentic tube tones I was looking for. After extensive online research I rolled the dice and ordered the Super Champ X2 HD and matching SC112 cab untried through MF. This is the first factory-new amp I have ever bought.

Right out of the box I had concerns, as the sound was a bit harsh on both channels and the models all sounded a bit, well, wrong. But after installing FUSE, tweaking the settings, and breaking in the tubes and speaker, all those concerns melted away. I am now getting fantastic Marshall and Fender tones out of this thing, as well as pretty good metal tones. As for the cleaner blues/jazz models, they are killer – that classic warm tube clean with basically no harshness or breakup until the main volume is up past 7. The FUSE software really lets you tweak everything just the way you like it. I have fiddled endlessly with the parameters and my sounds just keep getting better and better. I love how FUSE shows a mockup of the amp fronts for each Voice, so for e.g. when you are on Voice 12, your FUSE screen on the computer looks just like an 80's Marshall. The head and cab version yields a super-punchy low end. This amp is ideal for a lot of styles including blues, jazz, country, alt, and classic rock. Extreme metal players who play nothing else might be better served with something else.

Despite its wide range of grade-A tones, this amp is not ideal for the touring player – key controls like Mid and Presence are only adjustable via FUSE, so for at-gig tweaks you would need a laptop to fully adjust for the room. Obviously, technophobes should also look elsewhere, as this amp only really comes alive through use of the FUSE software app. But for players like me who want 100% authentic tube tones, wide variety of sounds, great sound at all volumes ranging from the bedroom to the small club, punchy low-end, and affordable price, this is as close to perfect as I can imagine. Oh yeah, and it's light-weight and easy to carry around. LOVE this amp and cab!

.I have used a Tech 21 Trademark 10 for many years as an analog recording amp with good results as it had an XLR jack in its back panel so easy to record. Still, I wanted the body and detail a real tube amp has for guitar and this Super Champ X2 really delivers on that. To use this amp as a "recording preamp" I found out (from Fender) that you need to have an 8 ohm load on the speaker out jack or risk blowing it up as is true for most tube amps. So I made one. I got an 8 ohm resistor from Parts Express, wired that to a 1/4" jack and done for very little cost.

Still, I find that while the range of recorded tones coming out of the Line Out jack is just great, the recorded tone does not have the bark and presence that running it through a great speaker does. If you can record the output of a great speaker, please do so. I do like having the 16 different amp emulation choices and really like some of the effects that I dont have like "Vibratone" and "Tremolo".

In all, a very musical and creative recording tool in my studio.

A sweet blend of classic fender tube tone and modern modeling tech in a small but powerful little package. I also own the previous version in the combo. Great little amp as well but, the little baby speaker doesn't let the amp breathe. Had been running that with a 2x12 cab with 25 watt celestion greenbacks and it opened right up and sounded like a boutique amp. That and a Boss Blues Driver became my go to rig. Wished it came in a head and didn't want to hack up the poor little guy to cut it down. Then one day I found this little gem.

Soundwise it is very similar with minor differences in a couple of the stock effect sounds but still great. Might even like it better haven't had it long enough to be sure yet. One may think, "oh 15, watts, what am I going to do with that". This is more than just a bedroom beauty, I have used it in rehersals and a number of shows and it holds it's own just fine. The 12" ext cab offered probably helps too, compared to the little speaker in the combo but, I know with my greenbacks the sound is sweet.

The amp is very versatile with a wide range of amp sounds and effects. It has a sweet clean channel as well as the many choices of the drive channel. Sure it doesn't have a 1,000 different amp sounds and a 1,000,000 different effects but if you can't find it here you likely do not know what you want yet.

Versatility, affordablity, portability, and great tube sound. This amp can't be beat. Now for big venues with large stages where you need more coverage I do slave a 100 watt Marshall 1/2 stack but the SuperChamp x2 is definitely awesome. We tried this head with my cab side by side with a number of high dollar low watt heads and this one put most to shame and held it's own with heads that cost many times more. A lot of other guys were kicking themselves for the money they dropped on amps that this amp smoked for this low of a price. Anybody wanna buy a hot rod deluxe?

.A great Fender amp. I bought one of these at GC last week and ive been so busy with it i havent even touched my supersonic. I havent used the computer features, or many of the amp models, in fact i have only really used the basic - tube side of the amp. Crank it up and it screams like a champ should, you can then adjust the volume on your guitar , like any old tube amp. Thats really the reason i bought it - to have the standard, basic 15-20 watt Fender 6V6 amp sound for not a lot of money. Im sure the other features are fine, if thats what you need but im here to tell you its also just a great little old school champ, without any of the added gadgets.

.I bought this for fun but after hooking it up with a 4x12 Marshall cab it became the gig amp too. The sounds are great clean and powerful. I rarely use the presets. It's simply the best amp with a tube preamp and tube amp section for the money. Great AC/DC sounds. If you work with it you can get anything you want out of this little Fender.

.Ok, first off i have been playing for only two + years. I have now owned many amps and many guitars. This one continues to impress. I have had this amp for 6 months now and I want to tell you what i think. I put at least an hour on this amp everyday. It is durable. I currently have it sitting on a peavey 112 sx cabinet loaded with an eminence texas heat. The stock tubes have been replaced with a combo of JJ's and tung sol 12ax7 and re biased at 40%. The addition of new tubes was not a necessity, but an improvement. The sound quality is better than a marshall haze 40, egnater tweaker 15, vox valvetronix, fender mustang, line 6 spider... These have all been in the same room with the champ. Side by side these amps have been put to shame by the x2. I cant imagine getting better tone for the price. (you cant) This little guy is remarkable. With the fuse software I can make this thing sound like anything i want. BUY IT! This is the only home studio amp you will need. Insane beautiful cleans, to red hot hellish distortion. Tweed to metal. The modeling is the best i have heard. I have heard them all. Also the clean channel works great with pedals. Not that you need them. If i lost my equipment this would be the least inexpensive and the first to replace.
Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head Black
.The only thing that would make this better is if it shipped with high-quality EL34 tubes.
If you replace the tubes, be sure to have it properly biased.
Sounds great, stock from the box. A few tweaks make it perform like a boutique amp.
Got this new and it worked perfectly. No problems yet. Didn't like the tubes, so immediately replaced them. That improved tone dramatically.
In today's economy, this is one of the best bargains I've found.

.Best of Both Worlds - I'm an old tube amp fuy. This mixes the old school with high tech cool.
The 1st channel is straight up Fender Super Champ. 15 watts of pure tube tone.
The 2nd channel has 16 good amp models form Clean Tweed Champ to screaming 2000 Metal. Most of them are pretty good as is. I really like the 60's and 70's British (think Marshall). Digital effects are all pretty good (it has a real nice drippy reverb) and easily customizable using free Fender Fuse downloadable software via USB port. All models and effects are tube driven for real tube tone.
I'm loving this little amp so far and still have a lot of learning and playing to do.
I highly recomend this amp especially for the price.
16 Amp Models, a multitude of effects. All customizable with Fender's downloadable Fuse software via the USB port. What else could you want? Oh an included footswitch would be nice or maybe if a footswitch was even available for it(sold out all over).
It's a Fender everthing worked great right out of the Box.
The preamp GT-ECC83S seemed a little weak so I replaced it with an old stock RCA 12AX7A. Ahhh now that's much better.
This price for a 15W boutique tube amp with modeling and effects. Sounds like a great deat to me.

.I'm using the amp head with a Laney Cub Cab -- 2 12" Celestion speakers -- open back. The fullness at low volume is amazing. With 16 built in amp models you can't go wrong no matter what guitar you use. Video example at: http://youtu.be/AqROdLqW9Bg
