Product Features

Packed to the gills with Fender's latest revolutionary innovations, the American Elite Jazz Bass V is an active 5-string bass for the modern bassist who demands cutting-edge tone technology along with timeless style and fast, smooth playing feel. Its versatile sound easily matches any playing style—picked, plucked or slap-and-pop—while its standout looks remain authentically Fender, with a fresh twist.

With the exclusive all-new fourth-generation Noiseless pickups, Fender has achieved the sonic equivalent of cold fusion—vintage-style response with completely noise-free performance. These muscular pickups are fueled by a redesigned robust 18-volt preamp cranks up the power for even more signal quality for chest-thumping tone with more headroom and reduced noise. Designed for fast playing and effortless position changes, the compound profile neck with a 9.5”-14” compound radius fingerboard is ideal for all playing styles. A modern “C”-shape at the new genuine bone nut, the profile morphs along the length of the neck to a modern “D”-shaped profile at the updated neck heel, providing plenty of comfortable support for fret hand antics. Posiflex™ graphite support rods run the length of the neck, adding stability to the neck while resisting temperature- and humidity-induced warping. The HiMass™ Vintage bridge increases note attack and resonance for thunderous basslines with colossal punch and boundless sustain while allowing either top-load or strings-thru-body stringing. In a vintage-inspired touch, the new truss rod adjustment wheel has been moved to the butt end of the neck for easier access, making neck relief adjustments a snap.

This bass is packed with Fender’s immortal aesthetics—from the ergonomic contours to the black chrome headstock logo, large pearloid fret markers and new color this instrument will pin the audience’s ears back with it’s gigantic tone and slick style. The American Elite Jazz Bass V is a bold new bass for adventurous bassists who need a tonal multi-tool that refuses to compromise on any front. Includes a redesigned Elite Molded Case with body-hugging contours to provide increased protection for your cherished instrument and TSA locks.

Just received this bass in black and I can tell you this is absolutely the best bass I have ever played, period. I have 5 other basses (Ibanez, Warwick, Hamer, etc that I have bought over the years and not a one of them can hold a candle to this bass.
The neck is so good that when I played it for the first time, it felt like I have been playing this bass for years. Extremely comfortable, well balanced and OMG so FAST!.
In regards to the tone, in the passive mode it sounds as good as any Fender Jazz on the planet. However when you flip the active switch, it takes the tone into a whole another world and the controls allows you too dial just about anything type of tone in. Want an old muddy Motown growl, you got it. You want to sound like Chris Squire from Yes, you got it and everything in between.
I can't say enough good things about this bass. Yes it is on the expensive side for a Fender Jazz V (one of the most expensive basses I have ever bought) but I can tell you personally, after playing bass in bands for decades, this one is worth it.

.Simply the best Fender Jazz Bass I have ever owned and I've owned many going back to the 60's. The neck is fast, smooth and comfortable. Pickups and preamp sound classic 70's jazz but not over the top boomy, harsh or shrill. Compares favorably with my boutique bass costing 3 to 4 times as much.

.I own 9 Bass guitars (7 4 strings 2 5 strings)..Fender, Squire, Ibenez, BC Rich, Schecter. This was my second 5 string Bass. I love it right from day one. Sounds great and plays the same. If you have never played a 5 string then let this be your first one you will love it

.This is my second 5 string Bass my other is a BC Rick Innovator and it has not been made for over 10 years. In passive mode it sounds great and in active mode even better. Has great tone control. Easy to play from day one. I have friends who play Bass and they want it. You can not go wrong with this Bass....

.I use it to practice, play and record. The sound is all that you can expect from a fender jazz bass. It does have a little pick up buzz so there is no such a thing as "noiseless pick ups". Feels great, plays great, the neck is very comfortable with his transition from C to D shape although I find my bongo more challenging mfortable and easier to reach higher pitch notes.

I selected "poor quality craftsmanship" because of the electronics. It sounds a buzz when moves coming from the batteries compartment due to lack of stability; there is no stable structure for the batteries as there is in similar priced music man basses. I also first bought a pre owned one and in the middle of testing it, the bridge pick up just died and I had to go through the hassle of returning it and buying a new one. For the price of shipping it back, the best option was going for a new one. So, in the end, I am still testing to see if something is going to happen to this one. Great bass but too bad that fender does not seem interested in providing a quality as high as music man does.

My recommendation is go first for a not so expensive jazz bass, then if you are not dissapointed, go for the big one...
