It's hard to believe that I have been playing guitar for 50 years. It's true. Rock and Roll, mainly, and always a just a hobbiest. Never wanted to make a living doing it, although I did fantasize about it from time to time. I am no virtuoso. Never have been. I just love to play well. I would rate myself as pretty dang good. Better than many. But, there are many great guitar players. Over the years, I have had many guitars. Because I didn't play professionally, I never had a real need for many amps. I have had a few, though. Big amps. More power and speakers than necessary. We played rock and roll through big amps. Now, I am 60 years old. Still rockin' and rollin'-always will-, but suffering from the usual side effects- ringing ears and a really sore back. Can't do much about the ringing ears. Memo to self- wear earplugs. As for my aching back, it just made sense to unload the heavy stuff. It was sensible and necessary. I couldn't hardly lift the darn stuff anymore. I recently parted with my 9.5 lb Les Paul and my 2 x 12, 60 watt boutique tube amp. Both monsters. I loved them. For the good times. Which brings me to my point here. I bought a Fender '65 Princeton re-issue. I can pick it up! Custom Guitar's Friend was great and the purchase went smoothly. The amp is a little treasure. Great sounds come out of it. It can be soft or it can get loud. It can be clean or it can be raunchy. It handles all genres of music with excellent tone. I wish it had a standby switch- my only complaint. Not a large problem. The reverb and vibrato are more than adequate. Pedals sound perfectly fine coming through. Not sure who started that rumor that pedals sound better through the '68. The 10 inch Jensen speaker has a vintage sound in the '65, which was one of the main reasons that I chose it. And hey, when they call me to play the Beacon Theater, I won't worry about bringing a small amp. I'll mic it! Thank you, Fender, for accommodating me as I closely approach advanced age. .Bought one of these 3 years ago and have no major issues yet but keep reading horror stories on the WWW about failing units and the Antenuator control. Just waiting for mine to bust too!
Fender doesn't appear to test their new gear sufficiently - IT BUMS ME TO PAY $1000 for an amp that is soon discontinued when the product SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED ....... BECAUSE IT IS DEFECTIVE !!!!!!!

.what a bummer!this amp is a tease and a failure. the sound is very nice with the vol up to about 3. then it sounds just like a sweet princeton reverb. (i know because i had an original. pr's are one of the best sounding most highly sought-after amps of all time.) but put volume on 5 where it should give nice break-up, and this amp sounds terrible! there is a horrible ratty noise. many people say they eliminated this bad sound with a baffle change-don't believe it. plus why spend $900 on a new amp and then have to repair it? the amp made the same horrible noise when i plugged it into other good spkr cabs. i connected it to 2 of my mesas with the same result, so IT'S NOT THE CAB NOR BAFFLE!fender came close to a home run but totally blew it!what a shame. for a few hundred more u can get a real pr used. it's worth it. this is bad!

.Mine buzzes and rattles. So many of them do that people just end up accepting it, it seems. I had to install the infamous piece of angle iron above the speaker and that was about 80% effective. I really hate having to troubleshoot, fix and modify new gear, especially overpirced gear like this. It's not like it's hand wired with gold filled tubes and a boutique speaker. It's a low-grade construction and materials studio amp that isn't up to snuff for the studio. How can it be worth $900 for a 15 watt tube amp? I wouldn't buy this again unless it was perfect out of the box and about $499. When it's not buzzing and farting at higher volumes, it sounds absolutely beautiful and it's a cute little box. But man, it's not $900 + tax beautiful.

.Great amp but a little high in price. The video on this page describes incorrectly that the amp has a pair of 6L6 power tubes but in fact has 2 6V6 power tubes. 6L6 tubes are used in higher powered Fender amps of 40 watts and above. My Princeton has a retrofitted 12 inch Eminence 1258 speaker. it sounds almost exactly like my 65 Deluxe Reverb and nearly as loud.

Crisp, clear, punchy and tight tones emanate from this legendary amplifier and its Jensen speaker. It doesn't matter whether your guitar features single coil or humbucker pickups, this amp makes your guitar sound great! The reverb and tremelo add a special bonus. Tweak the knobs on the amp, and on your guitar to create a myriad of classic tones. Its reputation is well deserved. It is not a high gain amp, but if you insist, it can be pushed with some extra volume or an overdrive pedal. But, honestly, it sounds great without a board full of pedals. .I did not buy this from MF but thought I'd leave a review anyway as I frequent this site for research and pricing. This is a fantastic amp, and it nails that classic Fender black face sound. It's warm and glassy, reverb and tremolo are spot on and WAY better than any pedal I own. I've had this amp for months and have not felt the need to upgrade speaker, tube, etc. though I probably will at some point just to see what other sounds I can get. Additionally, I've never had the baffling issues that other people have described. I'll admit Fender doesn't have the best quality control these days, maybe I just got a really good one. Anyway, I think a lot of the negative reviews or comments are from people expecting something that this amp can't deliver- it's not a metal amp, it's not a super high gain amp, it's a small amp that sounds best pushing out pure, clean tone. I use Sunrise pickups on my acoustics and they also sound great through this amp, that's one of the reasons I bought it. I've ran my Wurly and Nord through it too and the Nord Rhodes through this amp is classic.

.If your looking for that old Fender Blackface tone and can't afford an original and.... Oh yeah have a bad back like me, you will not be disappointed with this amp. I have an old 67 black face pro reverb, I've been using for 20 years, which I use for gigs. But I wanted something with similar tone and lighter weight to take to practice or to just jam with friends. I'm super happy with this Princeton. I'm using this amp with my guitar and also my Pedal Steel Guitar. I've read on forums of people getting this amp brand new and swapping out the speaker right away, but I see no need for that. Don't fix what's not broken. It sounds Great!

.Good black face tone as you would expect, the amp is a clean sounding amp with classic fender reverb and vibrato, those are the reasons to be buying this amp. Amp is loud for 15 watts, I usually use mine with a attunator for home use, especially with an overdrive pedal in from of it, seams perfectly designed for a strat and a tubescreamer, 2 inputs is nice a option, this amp is kind of like a 65 Deluxe reverbs little brother. The 10 inch speaker is a nice touch, a lot of bass and punchy, nice dynamics. I wish it have a switch to knock it down to 5 watts or something, that would be sweet. I play blues, country and some classic rock, this amp handles it all no problem, need a OD pedal to get dirty though, do not expect much tube saturation, the amp stays pertty clean even when cranked. The amps seems priced high in my opinon, I bought mine used for 600 at a local shop. Not sure I would pay full price for it, might get something else, a deluxe reverb is only a hundo more and you can find those used easily, you hardly will ever find one of these Princtons used, so when I did I snaged it. No regrets with this purchase, no QC problems or rattles in mine.

.Overall this amp sounds excellent. I've been playing for many years and have had many amps, etc. and I really love the tone of this amp. The problem of course as everyone mentions is the baffle rattle. I received a warranty repair and had to wait 4 months to get my amp back. After a few weeks it started to do the same thing. The factory recommended fix did not help much so don't count on the Fender warranty. I ended up reinforcing the cab with aluminum and it is way better than factory and still no good. I will most likely have to end up buying a hand made cab that is built well to solve the problem eventually. Note: I play a 17" hollow body with the bass@10. This is the way it sounds best for me so if you have a strat and reinforce the cabinet with aluminum, it should be fine for a more brighter sounding guitar.
