This is a great guitar if you want to have a Fender Telecaster.This is a very nice and impressive guitar. The only thing with the Charcoal Transparent color is that actually is almost black. In the picture here you see a more brown color, but it is not so, I repeat, it is almost black. When I got mine, I was a little displease when I saw a black guitar, but I decided to keep it because of its good sound, action and intonation... and for the price...

.I own Telecasters made in the USA, in Japan, in Korea, in Mexico and yes, even in China. This guitar is flat out an unbelievable value and absolutely gorgeous. As far as the pine material, I have no worries whatsoever (and I have been a professional woodworker all my life) about any screws pulling out of this guitar. This is not your lumber yard pine - it's heavy and it's dense and no softer than alder or basswood, so have no fear. The pine body is also part of why I bought this guitar - it's different! Love it!
I've been wanting a Tele with H-S-S pickups for a long time and now I've finally got it. Five-way switching, plus the coil-tap toggle are a nice change from standard 3-way Teles, though the coil-tap is a little weak sounding. The neck is a beautifully quarter-sawn piece of maple and the vintage style tuners work fine. I really like the through-body stringing and the hard-tail bridge, too!
Right out of the box (pre-ordered mine sight unseen from MF) I was amazed at the quality of the trans-charcoal finish and just the downright beauty of this guitar. NOTE: This guitar looks VERY different from the picture on this site and on Fender's site as well - it is much darker and from a distance of six feet or more, you'll have a hard time seeing the grain. That said, this guitar is as well put together as any of the other 9 Teles that I own. If it weren't for the Made In China on the back of the headstock, you'd be hard put to guess where this guitar was made!
My title says it all - the best money I ever spent on a new guitar!

.BIG HEADS UP HERE!!!!! If you buy this instrument pay in mind the body is PINE! ( A very soft wood- They should have thought of this a little more) THE STRAP BUTTONS WILL RIP RIGHT OUT WITH VERY LITTLE FORCE!!!!! Please remove the strap buttons ( I replaced mine with strap locks) and insert some oak shivs (Toothpicks) and super glue them in and then screw the button back on, Or else drill out the hole to 3/16-1/4 inch and insert an oak dowel superglued in and then drill your screw hole, drive the screw in, then remove it and use thin super glue in the tapped hole. Then screw in the button. Problem solved.

For a Chinese Fender (imagine that) it's not bad at all. Seems to be a good quality instrument. After all they've been copying the heck out of American made Gibsons and Fenders for some time. May as well license them and get somemoney back from them.
Good value. for a licensed Fender product these days is doing well.

.The details:
I would refer to this as a Tele/Strat hybrid.
The split-able coil humbucker and "lipstick" neck pick up do the tele thing that is expected, but it goes beyond that.
The stock humbucker pushes a bright response through any combination of pedals into my Marshall. Perhaps a tad different response than the Seymour Duncan Buckers I prefer.
The middle pick up is strat, pleasantly punchy, and allows this instrument to mimic strat tones at multiple settings on the 5-way switcher.
I was anticipating feedback and buzz in the Neck pick up, but it was minimal at high gain and completely absent through a noise suppressor. The neck pup is slightly less hot volume wise the the other two....Still very tasty.
Rolling off the volume knob is responsive with any combination and very usable.
It stayed in tune at an outside gig in changing weather and temperature.
I have the same vintage style tuners on my favorite strat and find them reliable.
I am not a fan of the geography of a tele or a refinished neck.
However, the back is cut away at the top like a strat and being a hard tail, the sustain is remarkable.
The story:
I play in a cover band that performs at large and small festivals, and a variety of clubs throughout Wisconsin. 3 to 4 weekends a month. We have a very diverse set list from Rush to Rhianna, depending on the venue.
I have always looked for the one guitar that covers everything for every tune. My quest continues still.
However, this instrument is instantly impressive as one that I consider to be a outstandingly versatile instrument.
After extensive research on the internet and a bit of envy, I ran into a used guitar locally.
It was in great shape, set up well, and I couldn't let it go.
I headed home with yet another guitar.
As a side note, for some reason I thought it started at a higher price point new.
I'm happy with my purchase and think it's a good buy.
It feels like a quality instrument.
I am not a fan of finished necks or Telecasters, but with cautious optimism I thought this would be a good addition to my rig for the summer festival cycle.
I did not have an opportunity to stretch it out at home so this Memorial Day weekend I tested it live through my full rig: Marshall DSL 2000 100 watt, and a variety of Vox, Wampler, Boss, and MXR Pedals.
The rain and cold threaten consistently and I reluctantly limited my guitar rack to two instruments to combat any weather catastrophes.
I usually bring a mix of 3-4 guitars to a show to keep tones fresh, so I was hesitant to substitute something proven with something new.
In the end, It was this tele and my favorite workhorse strat that I equipped with Texas Specials and and JB humbucker that made the cut.
I started with this and played it 90% of the show.
A blast.
What made it most for me was the way it reacted to my rig.
I have always been a Les Paul or Strat guy.
I have never owned a SG and the teles I owned in the past didn't give enough versatility, so they were eventually traded or sold.
I have read reviews where this instrument could do everything from Les Paul to Strat tones. That is a touch more optimistic that I am willing to go.
It can do much more Strat than Les Paul. In the end it is still a tele.
Perhaps a Franken-tele.
Again, I don't believe in a one and done instrument, which is how I justify owning several different guitars.
I day dreamed before of buying a Telecaster and then equipping it with the necessary electronics for my taste, (HSS) but this instrument makes that project a tad redundant, or at least self-indulgent. That is not to say I still won't partake in the endeavor.
This tele will be found in my rig at shows consistently in the future.

.Nice guitar. Very versatile. Excellent for home recording where many tones are required but a budget does not allow for many guitars. Actually play this guitar more than my Gibson Les Paul USA MADE because of the neck shape and versatility. Color is really not even close to picture. It's really just black. I was expecting a somewhat "brownish/charcoalish" visible grain thing. Really have to have a bright light on it to see grain at all. "Pretty much black" should be the color title.

.I went to a local big market store to find a standard tele for playing out. The neck of the Standard and the American Standard I tried didn't feel like my old tele or my Ultra Strat. I picked up the Modern Player Tele Plus and it felt like home.
Plugging it in I liked the wide variety that the five position switch and the three very different pickup gave. After two days I gave in brought up Custom Guitars Friend and ordered it.
The packing in the box was so good that when I took it out I put a tuner on it and it was still in tune. True. I inspected it and found it to be exactly as the inspection ticket hanging on it said.
Let me tell you about the neck. It is so much like my 1955 tele you wouldn't believe it. Same heavy finish and shape. Even the tuners are exact.
The body is not your average pine. This is dense and when played without an amp placing your ear to the body has a crisp clear sound like maple or real good ash. Not muddy like a lot of guitars do. I plugged it in and beautiful in every aspect. The setup is do good that you can play from bottom to top with ease.
I truly believe that Fender will up the price on these beauties they are better than any MIM and a few of the American Made guitars. I will play this stock on stage with anyone.
I consider this the best value for a guitar in many, many years. Don't wait.

.The first thing you notice about this guitar is the great looks.The finish is flawless. The next thing I noticed was the quality of the hardware. The tuners are classic. I have Strats that are 40 years old with the same tuners , and have never had any problems with them, or needed to replace them. The neck pocket is as tight as any of the vintage Fender products that I own.The bridge looks like an American standard to me. The jumbo frets are finished perfectly. The tone and volume knobs, and the pickup switch are "beefy" , not at all like the flimsy ones on the Tele Squire that I bought a few years back.The maple neck is flawless. The nut width is perfect for me, as is the neck shape, radius and width.Most Teles aren't known for big string bends, but this one handles a full step bend just fine. When I think of a pine body , I think of the stack of two by fours at the local lumber yard. The body used to make the guitar that they sent me is nothing like that.Really dense, with a real tight grain. The shaved back makes it a very comfortable guitar to hold. The pickups have a lot of power , and give you a lot of tonal options.The neck pup gives the warm , clean bluesy sounds, the middle pup gives a 70s classic rock sound, and the bridge pup gives you lots of crunch. The bridge pup loses a lot when split, but raising it with the adjustment screws takes care of those issues.I have been playing since G strings were wound, and have been looking for a guitar that I could pack to a gig that would allow me to play anything from Roy Buchanan , to Dire Straits, to Otis Rush, and this is as close as there is. Don't let the "Made in China" sticker scare you. So are smart phones, pads and flatscreens. This is a quality guitar.

.Sweet, really. I was able to get this after the long wait for the china factory to fill the orders (9 weeks). Well worth the wait!
Feature wise, this thing is ridiculous. Three p/u option is great, but the bridge humbucker is weak. You will want to replace it. But that's it. The others are fantastic. Because you can split the coils on the humbucker, with a switch already installed, this would be great to drop a seymour-duncan '59 or similar. Quality is amazing. It's Chinease. Go figure. But it has a really great finish. The neck is amazing too, with antique aged yellow, thick maple fretboard coat. Huge frets, super easy to play. Really nice. I can't emphasis enough how nice because the factory must have taken the specs and built it to such a high standard. Pine wood body is beautiful. It is not light though. The wood is very dense and the finish is so hard and thick high-gloss, if that's what you're looking for, then you will be really pleased.
Previously, I pointed out the bridge pickup is weak. That said, it's the only knock on this guitar. It still is fine, about a medium output, if you don't split it. But it's pretty useless if you do. It doesn't have the clarity and bell-like ring that you would expect. I have two Fender Telecasters that were made in Korea with American made Seymour-Duncans, mind you the Koreans cost twice as much, but other then the humbucker issue, this model is on the exact same par.
10 - period. I've not seen a tele copy with a no-name maker put this out for twice the money and this is an actual licensed Fender. This was really a smart move on Fenders part to continue to capture this lower end market.
