Ok. I bought this sight unseen off MF. It's just spoke to me. I had a 65w single 12 FMR a while back and got rid of it before Fender quit making them and regret it. Had a Mustang II for a while and didn't really like it. LOVE my Super Champ. The Champion 40 feels like a cross between the Mustang and the Super Champ. Solid State, single 12, 2 channel (clean and gain), 4 amp voices (tweed, blackface, british, metal), FX with reverbs, choruses, flange, delay, tremolo etc... and a tap button. It's like a Super Champ with no tubes honestly.It sounds like a solid state amp all the way. Nuthin you can do about that, but it's still got some very usable tones. I won't say I love this thing, but it's growing on me. The tweed and blackface settings seem very familiar to me and for practicing at home, this is a great amp. I don't have to burn tubes to practice at home anymore. I didn't like all the bells and whistles and flashing lights of the Mustang, and hooking it up to your computer may appeal to some, but not for me. This is for the people who want a Fender amp, with decent modeling capabilities, but don't want to read a manual. It's very straight forward and easy to understand right out of the box. Again, tonally, it's transistory, but passable. Not bashing SS amps, I've just never played one that did it for me. But that being said, this is a neat amp. I think it would handle a quieter type of gig, 3 piece maybe. Jazz stuff. Fully cranked it gets real honky and farty. And HOT!. This thing gets real hot. Don't know if that's normal, but after about 30 min of playing, I turned it off and felt the back of the chassis. It felt like a tube amp. I guess since it's got chips in it like a laptop, it's gonna run hot like a laptop. Your laptop has a built-in fan and this doesn't. Hope it doesn't fry itself. Cabinet seems bout right for this series. Not as well built as my Super Champ. pannels seem on the thinner side.
So would I recommend it? Maybe. Depends on what you're looking for. If you're turned off by the Mustangs, try this. If you're looking for a light weight combo to gig with, I would look elsewhere. I feel like under a very narrow range of circumstances would this guy work live. Solo jazz, sure. Full band, probably won't cut it. But everybody is different. It might be just what you're looking for. For junior's first amp, I would definitely recommend it. Kicking around the house, absolutely. It's 100w 212 brother would handle live better.
On a side note, I ran my Super Champ thru the 12 in speaker of the Champion 40. Sounded pretty good. And guess what... the Super Champ Chassis fits in the Champion 40! So if you've been wishing that you're Super Champ had a 12 in it, swap the chassis. You'll have to retap some holes in the SC chassis to line up with the 40's, or put new holes in the 40 cabinet, but both chassis are the same size. I may try that.

.I have purchased two of these amps, both in open box and new from an individual over the past year. I tried a couple of different models of the Blackstar ID Series in a similar power range, and was unimpressed with the general lack of clarity, complexity, and high(er) cost. I have had some good experiences with VOX Valvetronix amps and the larger Roland Cubes, but wanted a strong clean tone above all else with useful effects kept to a minimum; something a step above my VOX Pathfinder 15R, which has been taken to countless recording sessions over the nearly 10yrs. I have owned it. A 30-40W open back combo with a single 12" seemed about right.
The "weak" link on this amp is the driver itself, and the lack of solid mounting hardware to make a change out easier. Consider that you have blue-tinted thread lock lacquer on the back of each of the speaker mounting nuts, which must be removed with alcohol and tweezers to avoid stripping the threads. And, you will have to loosen all chassis mounting screws in order to carefully slide the top edge of the speaker baffle/grille from underneath the lip of the control panel for access. I have replaced these horrid drivers with a Jensen C12N and another with an Eminence Legend 1275. Both are outstanding and bring this amp platform to life. Make sure you select a speaker with a rating around 50WRMS @ 8ohms, and add a couple of #12, 3/4" pan head wood screws and lock washers from the rear, since these speakers will weigh between 7-8lbs., compared the the two pound OEM speaker.
After the speaker swap, you'll have amazing Fender clean tones in several voicings, with a digital reverb, tremolo, vibrato, and chorus that are excellent quality and at your fingertips. Acoustic electrics sound fabulous on one of the Blackface clean settings with a little chorus and reverb mixed in. Mini stereo plug in and out on the front panel make for a great practice amp and easy connections to computers, mixers, etc.

.I wanted to buy one of these since I found out about them. I finally discovered some demos on youtube. I bought one slightly used here at MF at a great price. I love the way this amp sounds. I know some people don't like a ss amp, but they don't bother me in the least. This amp is so easy to use. I found some very usuable sounds soon as I plugged into it and turned it on.The guy in the other review said his was hot after he had it on for a while...I left mine on for about 3 to 4 hours just enjoying it and it never got hot so maybe his might have a defect, I don't know.But it is plenty loud enough if you play like I do...it works great, but I think younger players are expecting concert level sound out of an amp that wasn't designed for it. We older players play at a much more quiet level...there's a difference between being heard and being the only thing heard. But bottom line, this is a great little amp and oh, if your wondering, the clean channel shares the effects from the modeling channel which is cool for me. Bottom line...great little amp at a very affordable price. Fender does it again.:)

.For years I gigged with a Fender Deville tube amp, but at age 60 it was getting just too heavy to lug around, so I got a Fender Excelsior, which I mic through a PA. Although I love the Excelsior, it's still a pain to drag around that and a pedal board if I want to play in the living room or out on the patio, etc, so I started looking at SS amps with effects.
I first purchased a Mustang II, but I seemed to spend all of my time on the computer trying to dial in a tone I liked. I was spending more time on the computer than I was playing, and to be honest I didn't like the tones or the closed back. Maybe the models are better now as I had a first generation model, but I'm just not a tinkerer, so this amp was not for me.
I started reading reviews on this amp and listening to demos online, and decided to take a chance and order the Champion 40 without trying it. It was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
The clean channel is classic chimey Fender roughly based on a Twin Reverb, and the amp models on channel 2 are MUCH better to my ears than the Mustang II was. My favorites are the Blackface Deluxe, Blackface Princeton, and British 70s models.
The effects (with the exception of the auto wah- which sounds a little goofy to me), are all very useable. The amp is as easy to use as it gets, and you don't need a computer to dial in great tone which was a huge plus for me. It sounds great with my Am Std. Strat, Epi 335 Pro and Godin 5th Ave. Kingpin.
It's a loud SS 40 watts, definately could handle smaller club gigs.I would have NO problem micing this amp and using it anywhere, and at 19 lbs. I may be doing just that from now on.

.I'm 60 years old .. Playing Music Live and Recording it are what have always done .! I own a licensed School of Music and teach 13 instruments .. But at Gigs I am a lead player and vocalist .. This Fender Champ 40 is what I have been waiting for for years for Gigs.. Of the 26 amps I own , this is my new Gig Amp.. ( 19 Pounds ! ) of Great Fender reliability and sound...! If I want more sounds I simply take my Line 6 pod and plug it into the clean channel if I need louder sound just drop a mic in front of it.. I waited a year and read reviews and listen to demos on YouTube before I purchased this app it's worth every penny great money machine....!

.The champion 40 is a great little Combo amp versatile and loud for its size. I play in a Ska roots rock band with seven members and a full horn section. Skeptical and a little concerned that I would not be heard over such a large group thought I would bring it to rehearsal and try it out. Surprise,the amp is loud enough at about 12 o'clock or five on the dial slight break up at that volume but really fairly good,its a two channel amp first channel has a very nice fender classic clean sound with a little break up as you turn the volume up ware this amp really gets cool is the second channel where it has many cool old amplifier sounds and i like most.that being said it wouldn't be my go to amp in most live situations not warm enough or thick enough sound in my opinion if thick is a good description for the tube amp I usually use. However I'd say for rehearsal or use at home it's much better than what you normally get at this price.

.Another excellent product from fender. Easy to dial up some great tones, especially in the fender and british models. I would not recommend this amp for those in the metal crowd, but if you're a blues and classic rock lover this amp will more than satisfy. Appearance is stunning with the classic blackface exterior. I highly recommend this product.

.If your playing light to medium gigs this is the little amp you need, if your a Fender man (or gal).
We do a duo gig at a wine and beer cafe and this little amp is perfect. I've been a Fender man as long as I can remember, I played through a 66 vintage Bandmaster for close to 40 years and always sounded better than I actually was. But this little Champion is exactly what the name implies it's a champ. Buy one you won't be dissapointed.

.I have been playing on an off for over 40 years. I have used mostly Fender Blackface amps over the years ranging from Bandmasters to Dual Showmans and my last amp was a Carvin Belair 2x12 and 50 wts of tube power. Much like a twin reverb. So when I decided to start playing at my later years, I could not afford a tube amp anymore. Back in the day you could buy a Blackface for about what this amp costs.
So I was spoiled by tubes and their sound. This little amp has really surprised me. On the clean side you get a real nice sound and can almost hear a Blackface trying to emerge. I say almost but it is acceptable for a solid state amp. They are what they are. It has plenty of power for me as a hobbist and my 335 sounds nice and fat through it. I have not had any real heating issues with it as others have mentioned. In fact I left it on for several hours playing,taking a long break and playing some more and it did not overheat. I am not into the Gain channel and since it did NOT come with a Footswitch, I brought my Vox Tonelab SE out of retirement. Got get my tube fix somehow. It accepts the Tonelab easily.
For the money this is one good little amp. I don't think there is any thing in its price range that can touch it if you are playing blues and Classic Rock. I'm happy with it.

.This is a great grab and go amp if you are playing a small room gig. The cabinet voicing's and effects are great. I do wish that the Reverb was separate from the other effects. Nice sound and it stays true to the Fender sound. Great price point!
