Product Features

The JEM77FP Steve Vai Signature electric guitar is a spectacular instrument that features a contoured basswood body in a beautiful floral patterned finish and a 5-piece maple and walnut bolt-on neck that provides easy access to all registers. A 24-fret rosewood fretboard is adorned with a colorful floral pattern vine inlays and has the high-speed JEM Prestige profile that gives Steve Vai the playability he needs. The JEM77FP sports chrome hardware and includes Steve's "Monkey Grip" handle cut on the body.

The JEM77FP is loaded with a DiMarzio Evolution DP158 humbucker in the neck position, a DiMarzio Evolution DPS1 single-coil in the middle position, and a DiMarzio Evo2 DP512 in the bridge position. This pickup combination features ceramic magnets and generates a wide sound variety of great tones needed for modern rock. The Evolution DP158 pickup was designed for Steve Vai and is fat, punchy, and loud. The DiMarzio Evolution DPS1 single-coil has a bright, clean tone. The DiMarzio Evo2 DP512 is tight, aggressive, and even louder. It produces a wide range of overtones. Ibanez's split-5 wiring provides incredible tonal versatility. Controls include a master volume and tone.

The acclaimed Edge tremolo features knife-edge-like pivot surfaces for virtually friction free operation. Locking studs contribute to tuning stability. The low-profile design of the Edge tremolo includes fine tuners conveniently angled back to prevent right hand touches. Ibanez's Lion's Claw tremolo cavity allows pitches to be radically raised or lowered.

Steve Vai has changed the way musicians think about what a guitar can really do. His signature Ibanez guitars are no different: iconic, sublime, awe-inspiring, outrageous. The Ibanez JEM Series models are trailblazers in a world of imitators - there's nothing like them. They have been proudly made in Japan since their debut in 1987.

Comes with an Ibanez flight case.

I have had over the last 8 years around 11 or 12 Jems. While I usually love the Ibanez products, this FP2 is not nearly as good as the JEM 7VWH or even the original Floral Pattern, Herman Li model or S Series. Why? Well - just because it says "Vai" doesn't mean its "all that". The 1980's style neck joint makes the guitar feel useless past the 15th fret, and even then makes it uncomfortable. Keep the extra cash in your pocket and buy the 7VWH. The Screws upon purchasing were already showing signs of corrosion, and the frets were lifting - bottom line? I returned it to the store.

.First of all, this guitar is absolutely stunning and easy to play, the sound quality is truely top notch. But I feel that its totally not worth the money I spent on it, ive tried other ibanez from the 800-1200$ range and I feel those are damn close to this one but this one is way more expensive because of the design and the name on it. I suggest you just buy a ibanez that ranges from the 800-1000 dollar range and then customize to your exact liking, therefore you would have a guitar better suited for you then this, and also much much cheaper. To sum up this guitar sounds and looks great, but is really not worth the money.

.I like Ibanez Jems alot but this one is just going through the motions.
It's a standard Jem which is a good guitar. But for the price you can have 5 other equal guitars.
It's good quality, but so is other Ibanez guitars at far less cost.
The value is horrific.

.Firstly..

Yes, it's expensive due to the Vai endorsement.

No, it doesn't have the AANJ and if you need that you should buy something else.

Does it sound amazing? Yes.

Does it play beautifully? Yes.

Does it look fantastic? Yes.

I bought the original floral new back in 1989. I can't remember what I paid for it, but it wasn't cheap. 25 years later I have never for one minute regretted buying it, or considered selling it. Great instruments inspire you and make you want to keep playing them. I bought the FP2 recently and I can honestly say it is as good as the original. There are absolutely no quality issues with mine.

There have been a couple of changes.. they've thickened the wood at the back of the nut to stop the neck cracking when chimpanzees overtighten the nut. The neck construction has changed from Maple with a curved scarf joint to a 5 piece laminated Maple/Walnut, presumably for strength and more consistant resonance of the neck and headstock. The pickups are now direct mounted instead of pickguard mounted. The neck on my original FP feels marginally thinner in the hand, although the newer Jem Prestige neck is supposed to be thinner, either way they are very similar. The fret wire on the new FP is apparently Dunlop 6150 instead of 6100, although I can't tell the difference. The PAF pro pickups have been replaced with the Evolutions. I was initially concerened that these hotter pickups might mask some of the acoustic resonance of the body. I needn't have worried, the Evolutions still have much of that subtle transparency. They have a much more punchy attack though and richer harmonic overtones. I'm really impressed with them, they are exceptional.

These guitars are strangely more than the sum of their parts, they provoke an emotional response that is hard to quantify. It's a great instrument and I know if I'm still here I'll still be playing it in another 25 years.

.It is a very well built guitar and finished, the handle is smooth and the wood materials look very good, especially the rosewood handle that looks almost ebony, very dense and dark. the flaws that I found are the joint neck that I find it more uncomfortable than the classic 7vh, pick up evo2 no better dell'evolotion. the edge bridge is very solid and beautiful, though perhaps prefer the pro edge.
In general is a tool top of the range to equal the value of music man, prs and other renowned brands. The look is really intriguing, between the dark and the hippies.
Recommended, although the price is not popular.
