Product Features

Ibanez has reached back in time to resurrect one of its most requested model guitars of the past two decades. And while true to the original of the early '90s, todays Talman brings with it a familiar, yet fresh sound that places it squarely at the crossroads of modern Ibanez innovation and cherished traditional tone.

The TM302M begins with a high gloss finished, traditionally styled Talman Alder body for a strong, full sound with beefy lows and stinging high-end. The Maple Talman Classic-Plus 22-fret neck is a traditional C shape for that comfortable, familiar feel reminiscent of guitars from the '50s and '60s, but its bright, clean-sounding maple fretboard is where modern innovation takes over.

A distinct Ibanez asset is its flatter fretboard radius, a feature more conducive to the techniques of modern guitarists, as well as being a friendlier surface for slide players. Yet another advantage comes from its smooth, contoured Fast Access neck joint, which provides unfettered access to even the highest frets. Hardware includes an IFX10 fixed bridge equipped with six individual string saddles for superior intonation, and locking machine heads that guarantee solid tuning stability.

The TM302M includes two Custom Vintage single-coil pickups, specifically chosen for their uncanny classic tone, aggressive bite, great sustain, and distinctive twang of a traditional double single-coil guitar. Run through a 3-way selector switch, these warm, single-coils are excellent for country, pop, blues or classic rock. Players who derive their distortion from an amp will appreciate the versatility and responsiveness these moderate-output pickups offer. Back off on the volume and you'll find your sound transforming from a snarling bite to a clean, singing tone with softer attack.

No matter what style youre playing, the TM302M will deliver the tones you know and love in an instrument that reflects the evolution of the modern player.

I own three Ibanez Talman's from the late 90's; humbucker, P90, and lipstick pickup models, and have always wondered why this popular retro body style was discontinued (except for the duct-tape covered Noodles model that appeared a few years ago). Besides the styling, these were very comfortable to play and sounded reasonably good for their price point. So, I was excited when this body style was reintroduced with a T-style pickup arrangement -- something Ibanez had not done in the 90's. At first, this new release was only available as a Prestige model, made in Japan and priced at 1,200 USD - beyond my budget. Now the more affordable TM models are out at a price below 500 USD. I ordered one of these in tri-burst with a maple neck as soon as they became available and was not been disappointed. Right out of the box the finish and setup were perfect. It plays beautifully and sounds great. The neck has a nice satin finish that lets your hand glide smoothly. The standard locking tuners were a nice surprise at this price point. Although you probably don't need it, it's nice the Ibanez includes a printed manual with the guitar that details setup and maintenance. The only thing that might have been better was if the fret wire edges had been polished a little more. This a great guitar for the price and an even better bargain during some of the sales events M-F has during holidays, etc. Buy one.

.I have 38 years exp playing, with many of those years as a paid musician. I was blown away with this guitar. I got mine , in white from an open box sale for a great price (thanks MF, you never let me down). The neck is incredible. I have a $2k all rosewood Musicman Axis Super Sport which is my main guitar and the neck on the Ibanez is almost identical except that it is not asymmetrical as the super sport is. The neck is so much nicer than my American Strat and Tele that Fender should be ashamed and that is saying a lot coming from me because I love Fender everything. The finish is flawless, the locking tuners are great. I like the pick ups also but they may not be for everyone. The neck pick up is slightly darker than My Tele, closer to a Richie Kotzen Winery Dogs type of sound and I personally like it. The middle position is beautiful, lots of sparkle. The bridge pick up is pure tele snarl. I am very impressed with this guitar for the price. I don't know any guitar in this price range or even much higher price range that compares. This won't replace my Super Sport or my American Strat but it will replace my tele, it's just a superior guitar.

.I replaced my Squier Classic Vibe 50's pine body tele due to comfort. The CV tele was an awesome guitar!!! but with the pine body weighed at least 9.5 pounds. I find the Talman more comfortable to play and love the body style and control lay out, satin finish neck and cutaway.
Plays as good as the CV and sounds great as well.

I'm a newcomer to the Ibanez family; I've been a Fender guy for years. I recently purchased a couple of Artcore instruments [AS93 guitar & AGBV200 5-string bass], and I was much impressed by the quality and playability. When Fender debuted their custom shop offset guitars with Telecaster pickups, I freaked--that is until I read the only two would be available in each state or something like that. But then I discovered the Talman, and I immediately ordered one. When it arrived, I gave it a quick inspection and ended up with a small nick on one finger. The frets were so sharp on both sides the whole length of the neck that they posed a danger! I immediately notified MF, and they emailed a return label. I waited nearly two weeks for the replacement. It, too, had sharp frets, but not nearly as severe as the first one. In addition, the tone knob was so loose that it just twisted when I tried to turn the knob, the string guide listed to port, and the G string broke when I attempted to tune the guitar. Rather than taking a hammer to it [my first impulse], I put it in an old case away from sight; I will tackle it another day. The guitar is a great idea, but c'mon guys!
