I am a guitarist of 10+ years, and I needed a bass for recording purposes, but wasn't looking to spend a lot - After doing research, this seemed like the best 5-string for under 300 USD.

I really liked the bass on first impressions - I received the natural brown finish, and absolutely love the way it looks with the black hardware. Like most websites, the photos don't do it justice, and the finish is a much prettier dark-brown in-person.

The bass plays and sounds great, stays in tune, and feels comfortable against your body for long periods of time. The only thing I had to adjust on the guitar when I first received it was the action - it's a bit high from the factory, and had a lot of room to be dropped without any fret-buzz. After adjusting the action, making the strings easier to press, I was able to play it for much longer periods without my fingers getting fatigued.

My only real complaints with the bass are that it seems to have a pretty narrow tone-range, the built-in preamp can unfortunately add a lot of unwanted noise, and the tone/vol knobs aren't very intuitive - I find myself fiddling with them often, without being able to distinguish any resulting difference in the tone being produced. That said, the main tone it does kick out does sound very good.

Overall I'd highly recommend this bass for anyone needing an entry-level 5-string, or an inexpensive workhorse that gets the job done in the studio.

I had an old Ibanez 4 string years ago....and loved it for its light weight and smooth neck.so I figured id step up to a 5 string. I love the boost knob and the color and finish is nice. only two gripes about this bass guitar...a little fret buzzing and the frets should have bin filed down more.

.Tone itself is pretty decent for me, though the tone control is minimal. This is expected at such a low price, though. It has a "boom" knob (smallest knob) which i'm guessing is a bass boost. I traded for it at a local shop, and the action couldn't be better, which is expected from Ibanez. For my first five string, it's been great, it's like i've had it for years and it's only been about a week. I haven't picked up my p-bass since i've gotten it, and that says something.

If you want to explore into the world of B, go ahead and snag one.
