I bought this guitar based on the strength of other Ibanez Artwood guitars I've played (specifically the AW400 and AVN1), and I came away impressed with this 12-string variant. For the price of a decent 12-string guitar and a solid top, it's hard to beat the AW8012. The similar Ibanez PF1512 (and Epiphone DR212) don't have solid tops, so I got this one instead.

The action was OK coming out of the box (I've since filed down 1/16"). The natural color of the solid top looks clean, and the guitar build is solid (the guitar doesn't feel dinky or cheap), although this guitar isn't going to win any awards for it's look (it seems most 12-stringed guitars have a natural finish). Playing on the light gauge strings helps reduce stress on my fingers, and is a great guitar for strumming chords (and of course covering those Led Zeppelin 12-string tracks). The neck is thin enough for my average size hands, and the neck width isn't too wide for those barre chords.

The light gauge strings (D'Addario EXP 38 Light Gauge) are bright, and have a good bottom end. An easy strummer. Finger picking can be done, but by someone who is more experienced than I (I've been playing about 1 year). I tune my guitar down at least 1 tone (sometimes 2) and use a capo. As with other 12-strings, there can be some warbly minor intonations with the different octave strings, but when the guitar is tuned right (as it usually is), nothing beats that sound! This guitar is a great addition to my AVN1 6-string.

I wouldn't recommend this guitar for recording/performing in a large room (no built-in pickup), but this guitar is plenty loud for my intentions (camping, living room, garage, etc), and also plenty soft for those delicate notes. Getting at those higher frets isn't easy, but for strumming, I don't really go that high anyways. A good guitar for those on a budget!
