I got one of these back in Winter '07 when I got an XPT700. In the 5 and a half years I have had it, and it has taken quite a beating, but it has held up fine enough.

By biggest concern with the case has always been that the construction seemed a bit lacking. It's hardshell, yes, but it's plywood rather than that molded stuff they tend to make hard cases out of. It's fairly protective and all, but I'm not sure how it would hold up to anything serious. Fortunately I've never had much more than the case falling over, having things dropped on it, etc, and it has held up fine in that regard.

The faux leather also tends to tear off, particularly around the edges. Duct tape will fix that easily, but it looks kind of silly that way.

Like I said though, my case is from '07, which I believe was the year Ibanez first launched the Xiphos, so the quality of this case may very well have improved since then.

The case fits very well, though I would hope that a case would fit the guitar that it was specifically designed for. There is also a good amount of storage room for cables, picks, pedals, straps, guitar toolkits, and whatever else you might need to bring along with you.

The case is pretty large: it's a good inch deeper, two inches wider, and six or seven inches longer than your average everyday Strat-style guitar case, but this is due to the shape of the Xiphos. It weighs about 16 lbs, and my Xiphos weighs another 8.

Like I said, there is plenty of room for extra goodies. I used to carry a Digitech Whammy, a Boss distortion pedal, and a foot controller (roughly the size of the Whammy), so it added up to probably close to 40 lbs with all that stuff. Just keep that in mind of you want to put everything in the case.

My overall impression of this case is that it's the one designed for the guitar. It has its flaws, but it fits like a glove. I've never seen another mass-produced case for the Xiphos, so it's not like you have any other options other than a generic universal coffin case. I would probably have rated this case with 3 stars, but I'll give it 4 for that reason.
