I wanted this bass to work. It's really beautiful. I saw the other 1 star review, and hoped it was a fluke. This bass looks beautiful. I also bought it in Soda Blue, and really like the look. I like the feel of the neck. I only played it with the stock strings, which buzzed a little, but I'd imagine that the buzz would go away with better strings. But the bass was built so poorly, there was no way easily fix the mistakes. The the knob connected to the 1/4" jack plate was very loose, and was fixable. But the 1/4" jack plate itself was not attached to the bass at all, and had knocked around in shipment, scratching up the bass and pick guard. I found 2 of the 3 screws to the plate, hoping to just screw the thing back in, but whoever drilled the pilot holes messed up so badly, that the wood under the plate had cracked off and there was nothing left to attach the plate. You could tell that 2 holes had been drilled for each screw, one very crooked one, and then one 2nd hole to try to fix the mistake. It was so bad, not even wood filler would be able to fix the mistake. Because of it, the soldering was loose, the body was dinged, and overall it jacked up the whole thing.

I still plugged it in, because I wanted to hear the sound. I love the sound. It's very bright, somewhere between a P bass and a Ric 4001, but only on some of the strings. This was clearly because the pickup height was not properly adjusted. But it has potential. The bridge pickup buzzed extremely loud, making the sound unusable. It buzzed whether you touched the strings or not. So even though the tone was nice, you could never use it because of the buzz.

Overall, this would be a fun bass to play IF it had been assembled with care. But it clearly wasn't. It's so sad because it has the potential to be so much better.

Long wait for this bass. When it arrived, notice right away that the color soda blue and displayed on the MF site doesn't look like what I'm holding. Acutal guitar is not as bright. Blue more muted. One of the knobs was hanging on, no nut to hold it inside. Found screw stripped. Had to add a big nut and now sits higher than other knob. Fret buzz on every string. Saddles doing the wave. Truss rod is stripped, perhaps at the factory. Tuner on D string is falling apart. Guitar tech on shop in Santa Barbara able to wedge small piece of steel to keep it from rattling. Really disappointed. Spent another chunk of change to correct these issues. But I still have a bad truss rod that I will have to deal with in the future. And hope that the other fixes hold.
No, I would not reccomend this to anyone. Pretty guitar. But not worth the trouble. It has a good sound. But this whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth.

.I've been playing bass professionally for over 20 years. Have endorsements with several companies, and own lots of different basses (Musicmans, Fenders, Warwicks, custom basses, etc). Not many basses available with a P and a humbucker, and the price was so low I thought the Talman was worth the gamble. I should mention that I'm not really a fan of Ibanez basses either. Never liked the ridiculously thin necks on a lot of them, and all the ones I've owned didn't cut very well when thrown into a band mix. Haven't given this one the live band test yet, but I can tell from some quick recordings I did A/Bing it with some basses that cost more than 5 times as much, that it's going to be fine.

Quality, sound, and feel wise I haven't a single complaint about this bass. Excellent finish and craftsmanship. A substantial neck, no sharp frets, awesome action, no buzzes, great intonation. The bridge saddles were kind of high when it arrived, but for most people that's a simple fix. If you're new to bass and setups, I'd suggest reading the manual or searching online and just dropping the saddles a bit. It's not brain surgery. Doing that, the bass plays awesomely. The pickups are loud, and they can get growly, in a good way, when pushing the EQ. The bass can sound like a P bass, a Jazz, but doesn't really do the Musicman thing, which I was hoping it would. Not a big deal, there aren't a whole lot of basses that can, IMO, do the MM thing - so I don't miss it. Lots of versatility, lots of sound, lots of thump, depth, and cut. That fact that you can switch the bridge pickup to single coil adds versatility, also. This bass is a winner, for sure.

I got it while it was on sale, and got an extra discount because of another coupon they offered at the time... so this was ridiculously cheap. I honestly don't think you can find a better, more versatile bass for the money. Again, if you're new to bass playing and your on the fence, get off and just buy it. You won't be sorry.

.My review will basically mirror most of the others; I was very excited to get and try this and trusted Ibanez reputation, even though it ain't Japanese made. It arrived, looked ok but needed a truss rod adjustment, usually no biggie, unless the truss rod is stripped, which it was. End of story there. I wouldn't ever think of keeping a a bass I couldn't adjust; it's gotta be set up right and easy to play. As far as I know I didn't have the other issues folks had but if they way mine started out is any indication, they're would have been other problems. Really did expect better from the Ibanez name. I just got a BTB33 and absolutely love it. Do not buy the TMB 300.

.I bought this bass back when it first came out, when there was only one very negative review. I loved the look of the bass and the price range, so figured I'd take a chance. Three returned basses later, I gave up.

Sometimes, when you're the first in line for a new product, that happens. You get the first batch before they can work the kinks out. I had planned on trying one in person at Guitar Center in a few months to see if the quality had improved, but was instead contacted by Ibanez customer service. They read my other very negative review and wanted to make things right. They told me they'd worked out the bugs this time around, and had me give them another chance. I can honestly say I'm glad I did.

So the pros: It the bass looks great. It feels great. Not too heavy, but solid enough to sustain notes. The tonal range you can get from the adjustment knobs is awesome. A tone knob for treble that can make your bass sound like a baritone guitar, a tone knob for bass that rumble all windows, a knob for volume, and a knob to adjust the blend between your pickups. The crazy thing about the tone knobs, it's they truly feel like they go to "11." Just when you think you've got all the treble a sane person would ever want in a bass tone, the dial keeps on turning. This isn't a bad thing. This is a GREAT thing! You can sound design the heck out of this bass. Crank the treble knob down, and the bass knob up, and it's pure brown-note thump. You can get such a wide-range of tones that this bass is perfect for that one versatile tool that does a little of everything. Even the volume knob, if you crank it full blast, gets a small amount of overdrive that adds a sweet amount of harmonic color to the mix.

Cons: For me, Active Pickups-- Vintage look should have vintage sound. But, active pickups have their place, and it's nice having retro look with a modern sound. Assuming Ibanez has ironed out the wrinkles, and all the new basses are like mine, I'd buy this one in a heartbeat.

.Fell in love with the color, body shape, pick-guard color and headstock at first glance. A little investigation later, plus finding the Soda Blue reduced at Custom Guitars Friend, I made the move to bring it home. Surprisingly, it was in tune and set-up nearly perfectly with a nice straight neck out of the box. I went on and specked everything and the only adjustment that I made was lowering the saddles just a little for my taste. A few different tones are there with the controls, so you can find your sound. Excellent fit and finish. The blue was not quite as vivid as it shows in some photos, but it's still appealing. The volume control is a bit touchy, so plan on making small increases with it.

Sorry to hear the above review. I guess now and then one can get a lemon. I had none of the issues described above. It is a beautiful guitar with a pretty good tone. Except, in order to get my favorite sound, I have to turn the treble control down a lot. The bass has a bite that to my ears sounds bad. Makes me wince, much like scraping on a blackboard bothers some people, this bothers me....All in all the bass is not bad for the cash spent. It is a keeper.
