Pros: Decent 5 string bass for the price. I traded in some gear and got this bass CHEAP. But I did get what I paid for. The good aspects of this bass is that the hardware is good. The bridge and tuners are solid. The finish is nice and the rosewood fret board is nice. It's got a mahogany body (which is supposedly a good thing).

Cons: The stock pick ups suck. Really hard to dial in any kind of tone. I recently replaced them with Seymour Duncan's and it sounds a lot better. The controls. You have two volumes, a tone and a bass boost. Tweaking them doesn't seem to do much at all. Again, replacing the pick ups has helped this. Another issue: balance. It's neck heavy. I don't use this thing live, but even sitting the neck tilts downward.

Bottom line: It's okay. I got it cheap and replacing the pick ups has made a positive difference. But I wish I would have bought something a little nicer from the get go. So, I guess if you're on a budget I'd recommend it, but if you have the cash, get something better.

.I got this bass as an early christmas present and I would have to say this bass is pretty decent. I was curious about this bass mainly because it has a mahogany body. speaking of which, that's one unique feature that this bass has. the mahogany body delivers great sounds. the electronics are a little different from what you normally would find on any active basses. the electronics consists 2 volume controls for each pick up, a tone control, and a phat eq(which is basically a bass boost). the 2 minor drawbacks I've experienced with this bass are fret buzzes(but it's not really that bad), and the tuners are not exactly fluent. it tends to get a little tight when tuning up and then it tends to get a little loose when tuning down, but I'm pretty sure that can be fix. despite it's flaws and mixed opinions on the gsr series, this is pretty decent bass to own. it's a good bass if you're looking for a back-up bass and to have an Ibanez bass to hold you over until you're able to afford a higher-leveled Ibanez bass.
