Product Features

This one is identical to the SR505 but with a Poplar Burl top. The bolt-on neck joint on the Ibanez SR505PB 5-String Electric Bass Guitar allows superb access to the upper frets of its five-piece jatoba/bubinga neck. Only 4/5" thick at the first fret, the 34" scale neck provides more comfortable playing than standard 5-string necks.

Bartolini MK1 pickups and 3-band EQ deliver world-class tone, while the mahogany body and eye-catching Poplar Burl top provide naturally warm lows and sweet sustain. A rosewood fretboard offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain. Ultradurable Accu-Cast B25 bridge offers quick and easy string changes. Single-screw saddle height adjustment gives you better stability than standard double-screw designs.

I have used it for a couple years now and had zero problems. It's a great feel for those who don't want a giant Fender 5-string neck. Very playable.

.I purchased this bass from a refurbished instrument dealer on eBay about 2 weeks ago. I performed an initial setup, including truss rod/neck relief, string height/action, and intonation. The bass comes with Bartolini MK1 pickups with a split coil design (similar to a reverse P-bass in the design, but not in the tone). These are not American Bartolini pickups, but don't let this deter you from this bass. The pickups sound amazing. The onboard preamp is centered on good frequencies to get deep lows and crisp highs. The mid switch allows 250 or 600 Hz, so you can shape your tone to the room very easily. The poplar burl top is gorgeous! The neck is stiff and solid, as it should be. This bass is lightweight and very comfortable. I really like this bass a lot. I can honestly say that I have never purchased this much bass for as little money as I spent on the bass - excellent value.

As far as performance of the bass, it has performed very well. I have played a variety of gigs with this bass, including country, rock, R&B, funk, and a jazzy/neo-soul jam night at a club I frequent. The tone of the bass is easily modified with the onboard preamp to fit all of these styles. Great slap, harmonics, tap, fingerstyle, and pick tones. I played for about 2 hours straight on one gig, and my back and shoulders were not fatigued nearly as much as with my 4-string traditional J bass. I have owned basses that cost more than double what this bass retails for, and they did not have the diversity and playability of this bass.

Bottom line: Working, gigging bassists will love the low price and high quality in this big value bass. Works well for either primary axe or backup. I definitely recommend this bass.

.I was excited about receiving this bass, I had played one briefly at Guitar Center and loved the thin neck and
how light weight it was. From the minute I opened the box and plugged it in there was something wrong with
it. A short in the electronics, two or three frets were high, the "A" string was dull and dead sounding, the strings buzzed and rattled. I took it to a Luthier thinking maybe it could be a quick fix, he did not want to mess with it and suggested I return it.. Trying to get return paper work from MF was nightmare.
No, I would not recommend this bass to anyone else, however, you might get a good one. I was not that lucky.
