I grabbed this bass on a whim, largely because I've long needed (and wanted) a versatile 5 string for recording. Spalted Maple top looks amazing, the tone is pure Ibanez bass.. which for rock, metal, djent etc is practically the standard. It lacks some of the bells and whistles in the electronics that more expensive basses offer, but as long as you know how to dial a rig, you can get an amazingly pro sound that feels great to play, doesn't break your back, and tracks solidly with no hiss/hum. Sounds great for slap/pop, finger style, and gets that great rasp with a pick. I couldn't be happier with this bass, especially for the price. I've come to a place in my playing and my gear lust where I care about what WORKS and SOUNDS GOOD, and I think we all know that you don't have to spend $3000 for great tone in a guitar or bass, and the Ibanez GSR205SM is living proof.
